It is our intent in articles like this to focus on both a product’s strong points and weak points. Where possible, we attempt to point out pros or cons that may not be glaringly obvious upon first inspection. Often, these are the sorts of little details that make or break a reader’s purchasing decision.
One such pro, which we feel obliged to point out, is the quality of MidiLand systems. Quite frankly, the quality of MidiLand’s speaker systems is miles ahead of most others in the PC speaker market.
The subwoofer is constructed of heavy wood, and glued and sealed extremely securely. The rear panel of the enclosure is sealed with a foam surround to prevent vibrations of any sort. The cloth on the grille is mounted very securely, and is not likely to tear or come lose, as it might on a cheaper system.

All of the system’s cables and connectors are gold-plated. In a system like this, it is unlikely that the gold-plating the connectors makes any difference at all, in terms of sound, durability, or otherwise, yet MidiLand does it anyway, which makes it all the more impressive.
Along those lines, we should also mention that we’ve had an S4 MidiLand 8200 Plus system set up in our labs for over six months, and it continues to pump out extremely impressive sound, no matter what we put it through. After that extended period of heavy (and often abusive) use, the system is still in prime condition. The value of quality like this simply cannot be understated.
