Stability from the DVD266-R was well above average. During the 72-hour period, we did not experience a single operating system crash, Windows 2000 Professional, in this case.

The single mishap occurred when MadOnion’s 3DMark2000 dropped out of the benchmark loop, and exited. The crash occurred while loading one of the program’s tests, and while the disk subsystem was under heavy load from the IOMeter test as well, and so we speculate there was an error in loading the test, causing the application to quit. In any event, this appeared to be a single isolated incident.

The DVD266-R performed quite admirably as well. We’ve shown two numbers for the Quake 3 benchmark, one with SMP enabled, and one without. While the performance increase in that specific application is minimal, we’d like to remind our readers that it will vary over a range of applications. Further, you don’t need to use SMP applications to take advantage of multiple processors. Even users who multitask somewhat aggressively will appreciate the power of an SMP setup.
