Our test system was equipped with Intel's new Fayetteville D815EPFV motherboard, which provides support for upcoming Tualatin processors as well.

The SoundMAX-equipped system was subjected to a period of standard usage, during which the sound quality was observed, followed by a benchmark suite to determine the level of CPU overhead consumed by the drivers. The benchmark suite includes ZD's Audio Winbench 99, a DVD playback test, and Epic's Unreal Tournament, which supports EAX extensions. Each benchmark was performed three times, and the results averaged. During all tests, the system was paired with S4 MidiLand's 8200 speaker system.
