By popular request we値l be looking into two systems specifically setup for gaming and multimedia use. One system will be featuring the Intel Pentium 4 on a Abit TH7-RAID motherboard and we値l be sure to determine its outer limits in terms of clockspeed. The other contestant will be the AMD Athlon 4/MP that値l be running on a Abit KG7-RAID motherboard and again we値l be pushing it to the bleeding edge to see how far it値l go.

Pentium 4 CPU

Fig 1. Pentium 4 1.7GHz CPU, we池e anxious to see how far it値l go.

Other parts that値l go into these systems? Well, quite frankly we池e trying to get our hands on some state-of-the-art hardware, here痴 a quick summary. Two IBM 60 GXP harddisks in RAID 0, Hercules 3D Prophet III GeForce 3, Hercules Game Theater XP or Soundblaster Live! 5.1 and a Antec SX-630 or SX-635 case to make it small and light enough to take with you to a LAN-party. We池e actually still looking into some of the parts, for now only the CPUs and motherboards are confirmed so we might swap out some of the other parts in the process.

What else? Still working on the 760MP setup, we actually got a Antec SX-840 case incoming that値l fit the motherboard and all the other bits and pieces nicely. When that 460-watts NMB WTX power supply finally gets here we値l be finally able to put two and two together and get it up and running. We池e definitely going SCSI for the harddisks and we値l also throw in some other high-end parts to make it a true workstation setup.
