Itasca, Ill., October 2, 2001—NEC Technologies advanced plasma display technology today with the introduction of its latest 42" models, the PlasmaSync 42MP3 for multimedia presentation users and the PlasmaSync 42PD3 for public display applications. The new monitors incorporate a host of exclusive features for higher performance than other 42" displays as well as dramatic improvements in image quality over their industry-leading predecessors, the PlasmaSync 42MP2 and 42PD2.
"NEC's new PlasmaSync 42MP3 and 42PD3 provide users not only with best-of-class image quality, but also with the only plasma displays specifically designed to meet the distinct needs of the multimedia presentation and public display markets," said Scott Evans, plasma product manager for Visual Systems at NEC Technologies. "NEC gives users increased performance and value by offering expanded feature sets and dramatically enhanced image quality at the same price points as our previous generation of displays."
The PlasmaSync 42MP3 is optimized for conference room, boardroom, videoconferencing, training and broadcast production applications, providing superior high resolution support and computer, video and HDTV source compatibility. The image quality has been significantly enhanced in this new generation, including a contrast ratio that has been nearly tripled along with a 25% brightness increase. The 42MP3 achieves this at a power consumption of 280 Watts, a 30% reduction over the previous model, making the 42MP3 the most efficient display in its class and lowering user energy costs.
The 42MP3 features NEC's new AccuCrimson technology, which allows the monitor to produce more realistic shades of red than was possible before. The 42MP3's image quality is further enhanced by NEC's patented Capsulated Color Filter technology for realistic color reproduction, and Advanced Accublend scan conversion for sharp display of screen images in non-native resolutions.
With the 42MP3, NEC improves its Digital Zoom to provide smoother transitions while allowing users to pick a section of the screen and magnify it up to nine times to emphasize a point or make small text visible to the whole room. The 42MP3 is also the first plasma display to feature Pixel Refreshment Technology, a programmable bar that scrolls across the screen activating screen phosphor as part of the monitor's AccuShield Phosphor Protection System, the most comprehensive system to minimize the risk of phosphor burn available today.
The PlasmaSync 42PD3 is the latest in NEC's breakthrough PD Series of monitors for public display users—the only series of monitors available today that are designed specifically for public display applications. PD Series monitors deliver dynamic, bigger-than-life displays to crowds of people in high-traffic environments such as transportation terminals, retail stores, stadiums, museums, hotels and bank lobbies.
The 42PD3 features a 140% contrast improvement and a 25% brightness increase over the previous generation, while the power consumption has been decreased 30%, giving users better performance and lower operating costs.
The 42PD3 also includes an improved 3x3 matrix capability that allows the user to matrix up to nine displays in a 2x2 or 3x3 configuration without any external equipment for a total diagonal image size of up to 126". It additionally features NEC's exclusive AccuShield Phosphor Protection system, including a new programmable orbiter that allows the protection to be customized for optimal results based on the application. This new technology helps to minimize the possibility of burn-in even during the most demanding public display applications.
The new generation of PD Series monitor has been upgraded to include audio capability as well as improved video processing, including motion-compensated 3-D scan conversion and 3/2 pull down for eye-catching video quality. The 42PD3 also has an anti-glare screen that greatly increases readability even in the harsh ambient lighting conditions encountered in many public display environments.
The 42PD3 is designed with an internal space for a small form factor PC, so that the monitor can provide a totally self-contained digital solution, improving the 42PD3's application flexibility. It also includes a programmable timer that allows the monitor to practically run itself after installation, as well as self-diagnostics to greatly simplify service and repair. The 42PD3 comes with a new, more user-friendly remote as well as a new multi-tiered menu system that makes operating the display easy for beginning and advanced users.
The PlasmaSync 42MP3 and 42PD3 are now shipping with suggested retail prices of $7,995 and $7,495 respectively. The monitors include a one-year warranty, with an optional extended warranty for two additional years of coverage that can be purchased through authorized NEC Technologies dealers.
