The P4IBMS performed quite well in our stability tests. With the Realtek LAN controller disabled, our test system did not crash once running the excellent Windows 2000 Professional. Enabling the LAN controller did reduce stability marginally (as integrated components occasionally do), although the system was still acceptably stable. Only a single instance of data corruption occurred while moving data over the network during heavy system loading.

In terms of performance, expect the P4IBMS to be on par with most other 845 motherboards. The 850, or even VIA’s P4X266, are still faster solutions. For more detailed information on the 845 chipset’s performance, read our review here: http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1395/
