The PC market, and the enthusiast segment in particular, have become a hotbed of stiff competition in recent years. Increasingly, it’s becoming harder and harder for companies to expand and dominate the market as they once might have. Over the next few years, we’ll see a comparatively large number of companies fighting for a comparatively small piece of the market pie. The result will be that each company will latch on to a small piece; a niche. Attempting to step outside that niche may be disastrous, as is already evidenced by operations such as Intel’s wireless and ‘other’ ventures, and even the demise of 3dfx.
Stick to one thing, and do it well. Right now, one of the best examples of a company following that directive is Iwill. Iwill is currently churning out some of the best enthusiasts’ boards we’ve ever seen. Iwill isn’t trying to conquer the OEM market at the same time, rather sticking to what it does well, and doing a very fine job at it.
The XP333-R is Iwill’s most ambitious attempt yet. Instead of selling high-quality boards that can be run out of spec, the XP333-R is designed from the ground up to be run outside specifications, and guarantees successful overclocking. The XP333-R is, without a doubt, the most ‘original’ board we’ve seen in our labs in some time, and promises to be an exciting product.
