By: Sander Sassen

Taipei, Taiwan, January 7, 2002 - AOpen Inc., a leading high quality motherboard manufacturer, today announced its new AX4B Pro motherboard based on Intel's latest and most advanced 845D chipset. The AX4B Pro has incorporated all the new features of Intel NetBurst micro-architecture coupled with the new 82845D Memory Controller Hub (Brookdale) and the enhanced 82801BA I/O Controller Hub (ICH2) to support the latest Intel PentiumR 4 processors with high bandwidth memory of PC2100 DDR SDRAM and communications, direct pipelines for audio and video, and improved calculation capabilities.

The AX4B Pro architecture is implemented by using the ATX form factor, accommodating 5 PCI slots, 1 AGP 4X slot, and 1 CNR. Capability includes up to 2.0 GBytes of DDR SDRAM using 184 pin DDR DIMMs in 64/128/256/512 MByte memory modules. Onboard sound is accomplished using Analog Device AD1885 AC'97 CODEC. I/O support includes 2 serial ports, 1 parallel port, 2 UltraDMA100 IDE channel supporting up to 4 ATA100 IDE device, 1 floppy connector, 4 USB ports, PS/2 mouse and keyboard interface, plus game/MIDI port, speaker out, mic-in. Also included are a real time clock, 3 Volt lithium battery, and 4 Mbytes of Award PnP Flash ROM BIOS.

Dr. Voice
The Dr. Voice is a great feature of AOpen motherboard. It can let you easily figure out what kind of problem occurred. It can clearly ''tell'' whether there is a component issue or an installation issue, such as CPU, memory module, VGA, PCI add-on card, FDD, HDD or keyboard by voice. The Dr. Voice provides four kinds of language versions, English, German, Japanese and Chinese for choosing.

Support Ultra DMA/33/66/100 devices
Build-in PCI Bus Master IDE controller supports dual channels. Each channel supports two IDE devices that make a total of four devices. This motherboard also supports Ultra DMA/33/66/100 IDE devices and Enhanced IDE devices such as DVD-ROM, CD-R/RW, CD-ROM and LS-120.

Supports Dr. LED (Option)
The Dr. LED can easily indicate what kind of problem you have encountered during system assembly or daily system starts up. If the system stopped due to one of the following failures: CPU, Memory, AGP, PCI, FDD, HDD or KB, the LED lights up accordingly on 5-25 inch drive bay.

Die-Hard BIOS with External Controller (Option)
Recently, many viruses that may destroy BIOS code and data area have been found. This board implements a very effective hardware protection method that does not involve any software or BIOS coding, hence is 100% virus free. DIE-HARD BIOS features inherently reliability. If BIOS had been influenced by any virus, you still had a backup rescue ROM to recover your system either through a jumper or an external controller from I/O rear panel.

External Controller provides you a better and convenient way to switch the BIOS status between "Rescue" and "Normal" without opening the case of your computer.

1MHz Stepping Frequency Adjustment
Provides "1MHz Stepping Frequency Adjustment" function in the BIOS. This magic function allows you to adjust CPU FSB frequency from 100~248 by 1MHz stepping adjustment, which provides maximum performance for your system.
