We set our testbed out to encode a five minute video clip into Windows Media format at a bitrate of 250kbps. Here, the extra bandwidth offered by PC1066 RDRAM decreases the encoding time by about 4%. In total, moving from the 3.2GB/s of memory and FSB bandwidth offered by the 850 chipset to the 4.2GB/s offered by the 850E decreases the encoding time by about 6%." alt="Hardware Analysis - Iwill P4R533-N" border=0>
Modern games typically prove more sensitive to memory bandwidth than most other applications, as the preceeding and following graphs indicate. Both Serious Sam and Quake 3 Arena show improvements on the order of 10% when moving from the slower bus and memory to the faster." alt="Hardware Analysis - Iwill P4R533-N" border=0>
