Athlon XP 3000+, AMD closing in on Intel
  Apr 04, 2003, 07:30am EST

Conclusion

By: Sander Sassen

So in summary the Athlon XP 3000+ is a step in the right direction for AMD and a good example of their ability to actually ship new processors manufactured with their new 0.13-micron process. A triumphant victory over Intelís 3.06GHz Pentium 4 with HyperThreading is however a little beyond the capabilities of the Athlon XP 3000+.

We expect the Athlon XP 3000+ to be one of the last AMD processors based on the aging Athlon architecture thatíll be shipped from their Fab 30 manufacturing facility in Dresden. So weíll have to wait until the debut of the Athlon-64 before AMD will launch a processor based on a new architecture, thatíll, hopefully, be able to withstand the test of time as good as the successful Athlon architecture was able to, during the five years of itís existence.
