Welcome back! Looks like the competition is heating up again as pending the introduction of the GeForce FX and ATI’s Radeon 9800 Pro both companies have started shipping their new products. ATI did so as promised a month after the introduction, per yesterday's press release, whereas Nvidia apparently has had some problems getting their product shipped as it has been no less than six months after Nvidia introduced the GeForce FX during Comdex in Las Vegas. We’ve just received our production sample board of the Radeon 9800 Pro and we took a few shots before we installed it into our test system.
Some photos from our production sample ATI Radeon 9800 Pro.
As is evident from the photos, the Radeon 9800 Pro doesn’t, physically, differ that much from the Radeon 9700 Pro, the same red color PCB and the layout isn’t that different either. ATI has now also opted for a 5.25" connector to supply extra power to the card, whereas the Radeon 9700 Pro came equipped with a 3.5" connector. We’ll be taking a closer look at the performance of this production sample versus the old Radeon 9700 Pro and Nvidia' GeForce FX over the weekend and hope to bring you more news next week.
