Tips and tricks

Naturally both DVDshrink and DVDdecrypter have a lot more features we haven’t touched upon, but we’ll leave these for you to experiment with. We however recommended you to stay away from recording software such as Nero Burning ROM, in our experience we’ve had quite a few failed recordings due to incompatibilities between the software and DVD recorders, especially when using DVD+R DL media. Furthermore both applications used here are freeware, create flawless backups and allow you to start creating DVD backups at virtually no cost but for the blank media of course.

DVD backups

A few DVD backups created with the applications discussed in this article.

All in all the procedures described in the previous pages have saved me a substantial amount of money from having to replace scratched original disks. Naturally the same procedures can also be applied to DVDs made with DVD camcorders or standalone DVD recorders. For example when making a backup of a DVD+RW that has a TV show on it that you want to keep for future reference. And naturally nothing is keeping you from making multiple copies of that home movie you made and recorded to DVD; now the entire family can have their own copy.
