Obviously you’d like to know what the finished amplifier will be capable of prior to starting construction. Fortunately Hypex provides detailed performance figures for the amplifier modules they’re selling. These are taken off the actual amplifier modules they sell and hence are an accurate reflection of what these modules are capable of in real life. Below you’ll find the plots for output power versus total harmonic distortion, total harmonic distortion versus frequency, output impedance versus frequency, intermodulation distortion and finally frequency response of the Hypex UcD400 amplifier.
Upon looking at these plots it is clear that this amplifier indeed delivers on its promises. Frequency response is indeed flat from 20Hz to 20KHz and THD is kept at an almost constant low level throughout the useable bandwidth of the amplifier. The THD score at higher power is especially noteworthy – with 200-watts output it is still below 0.05%. Not many amplifiers are capable of turning in similar results, and certainly not when you keep in mind the price tag of the Hypex amplifier modules.
