well, I think it depends on the age of each one of us.
also depends the time when it appeared, because the impression caused while playing a game is not certainly the same like 10 years ago.

From the past, then I can say that my favourite game, that one that crush my head and made me addict to play, play and play was
Return to Castle of Wolfstein3d, the first pc version.
and definitely the type of game is sports and military/war games.

This games are not the best, but were the kind of games that "changes" something in your head.

In the old arcades( before they filled with gambling machines), and at the roller-skating rinks, it was; Defender,Galaxian, and Pacman. And man the blisters I'd sport from playin them that much! I can't remember a single Commodore 64 game I played, I just remember the tape loading getting screwed up! Then girls became a better game, before Doom, and Duke Nukem arrived...what a FPS Doom was then! With the PSX out I just had to get Doom again, and Final Doom, and Ultimate Doom, lol.Gran Turismo was pure racing eye-candy.. But alright my favourite game of all time is...dam, I just have to say any game I've spent disturbing amounts of time and energy playing!
There's a certain multi-player I currently play that records all player stats, including total time played online, over 40 full days for me, certainly makes you think bout how addictive gaming is!
