Hi, there's a strange noise (high pitch, like the pull-up engine of toy cars) coming from my computer case, it's not the power box or the fans. The noise appears as soon as I scroll in IE with mouse or keyboard, although it doesn`t appear while scrolling in Word. When I start games it's there all the time, during apps only when mouse-clicking. Any ideas?

Right click on the speaker by the clock and choose Open Volume Controls, and try choosing 'Mute All' and see if this helps. if it does, than one of your speaker settings is picking up static. you will than have to go through all of your controls to see which one(s) are causing that noise.

What sort of mouse do you have? It could be a faulty driver for it, which is filling up the input buffer with multiple clicks.

ummmmm......maybe its your processor, i had an old Packard bell, really old. It would make a weird noise like that every time it went through something that used alot of resources. I changed the old intel processor, and the sound stopped, not sure that thats exactly what was wrong but i had an extra so i was happy :-). Hope you get it fixed. K.C.

Hey guys,

I was having the same noise, and noticed that it only seemed to happen in IE. I went to my tools and looked into advanced. After disabling "smooth scrolling", the problem went away.

IE6 sp1, w2k pro, AMD xp 2500+, 1 gig RAM, Audigy Gamer, GeforceFX 5900 Ultra.

Good luck
