Custom build!

I have only limited experience with even upgrading PC's (actually burnt out a 300mb HD back when that cost $300) and I just built a PC with no problem. It took only 4 hours going very slowly and carefully. You'll save money, put money into the right components (I.E. video card if the system is for gaming) and you'll know how to upgrade it. Additionally I think $2000 is way too much to spend on a PC. Build a system for $1000 now and it can do anything a $2000 system can do (not counting benchmarking!) Then in a year build another system for $1000 (reusing your case, powersupply, fans, legacy drives...) and it will be better than anything even available now. Or use that extra $1000 for a killer digital camera or video camera so you'll have something to do with that PC besides just game.

Richard is on to something. I do digital photography and video editing as well as avid gaming. And my system plus camera cost less than $2000. And I have a very nice set-up. Easily upgradable, because I built it myself to be upgradable.

You can do your own DVD editing with 2k and have a bit to spare.

I found a decent DVD/VCR recorder for under 400$ (came with 5.1 SRS speakers :) )

Build my own would be my preference.

You pay all that money for a custom case, and that's it because all the other stuff can be bought.

Just doesn't make sense to spend that kind of cash on a pc that will most likely need to be tweaked to get it the way I want it.

I can build a really nice one for that price or even less than $2,000.00.

I only build my computers as I need them. I find out what the minimum specs are for the desired game, and bump each component up one level. Needs a 256 RAM? I get 512. Now I'm hitting a problem here. I'm trying to flash my 5200+ to an Ultra, and if this doesn't work out I'm just getting a new card. Should I either
A. Keep the card, earn some extra money, and buy a $150 card or
B. Sell the card now, use my PCI TNT2 until I can get a new $250 card
It's a tough choice, but I guess I can hold off on a new card for a while. Besides, I think my card is just now starting to break in. Last week it scored 8K in Aquamark 3. This week it scored 12K. After I push it to an Ultra and use it like that for a while, imagine how much of a boost! I could sell it as an Ultra and nobody would be the wiser.

If you're going for the best cooling, etc, you can't just pick everything up from Newegg. You also have to go to Xoxide, Koolance, or FrozenCPU to name a few. All those transactions don't look too good on your credit reports. Then you have to pay the bill, and the royalties on THAT could have paid for Vapochill... It's really a big mess. Luckily, my friend LJ's cousin owns a computer parts warehouse nearby and I can literally bike there to get stuff. Grrrr always so expensive!

I was thinking of a building a new system. (child on the way so out the window)
BUT ive seen systems fro 3K and there abouts. i can make a 4.8 ( or higher by a gig or so) for £2800 sold and delivered, with lots of software 22" monitor all updates bla bla bla.... and its one of the top performers,

i would love to build it then bench mark it,
any one want to buy one from me so i can bench it, a simalar system bench at 15531 but it was a lower spec, but i designed it as a server and gamers system with easy video production pro in mind. btu its all TOTR. any takers.

id rather build my system instead of buying one, i mean i know what im getting, and not to mention there is nothing to void the warranty of opening the case, i heard that Dell will void the warranty for opening the case.

Michael Bayangan:

Is that you company? Hope not.

"Never had a return" - because the machines don't get sent out.

I suppose it could have something to do with the spec'ed machines not existing.

Yeah, I've been reading that site is a scam. People get ripped off. IF you even get the PC, it's nothing like it's described.
