I see lots of guys on this forum who still buy from Dell for their computers!!! They custom build them as a hobby but buy from big names and pay big bucks! WHY? Custom-built PCs are about 5X more cost effective, and you're smart enough to keep them running, so why waste it on a Dell?

I love my custom-built PCs, luckily I only bought 2 PCs EVER before I started building for myself.

..For one I didn't have the funds available.

And I got this one 2000$ less then retail.. :) Under 600$ CAN (when it was 3 months old) (Including 512Mb RAM (21$ CAN) and ATI 7000 (70$ CAN), WinME (whoop) and XP Home).

XP Home alone is over 200$ CAN retail. Someone made a mistake with the system at a Rentown outlet. I ended up with both OSes at no extra cost. They were required to give me the OS installed on the machine (which was XP, ME was suppose to be included. Oops.)

How? Easy.. Picked up the payments on a defaulted account. They got their money (Close to 3500$ CAN, I think retail was around 26-2700$), I got a machine to do me for the outstanding amount.. (Plus a few things I added later. DVD-RAM was the most expensive item @ 375$ CAN

..That is my story and I have the recipts to prove it.. ..may be not.. it has been a few years now. :) Oh well.
I liked the clerks face when I came in and paid off the remainder in a few weeks. several months before the end of the term :) , they owed me 50$ for over charge. :) hehe.. gottal ove double payments until payday)

My other machine is a totally different breed. :) And is MINE. Not Dell or some other.. company's logo here.

Humm.. My own Logo. I'll be back. :)

:D :P

Smile or sticking out tounge?

:P That is it then. :P :)

I know building our own computers is what we all lprefer to do

but i spose this thread is pre built , an self built PC's has merit

I work at a High School
do i wanna custom build 60+ computers???
maybe
do i want to be responsible for fixing them if something goes wrong??
no would rather keep other areas upto date and functioning
so i would take advantage of warantees and service that come with prebuilt computers

this however depends upon alienware's support status, HP is very good at support for there machines flat rate yearly fee to be able to repair machines on call at an education facility

I do trust HP and ESPECIALLY Dell when it comes to PDAs, Dell makes some rock-solid PDAs.

hell Win XP Home Shouldnt be worth as much as it did when it first came out same with Professional, in otherwords these oses are being dated actually, and ms made a major mistake when they released Oses based on the New Technology File System.
