Trying to update to the most recent bios for this motherboard and can't get the flash utility to work. Using the most current flash utility, aminf332.exe, right off ECS site, but still having problems. I've put the file on a floppy, and reboot using a DOS bootdisk, then pop in floppy with aminf332.exe. When I type in aminf332.exe, its starts up then states:

chipset sis735
flash part - winbond 49f0020
error 2 - file does not exist

I've tried downloading the utility several times, putting it on different floppies with no luck. I've even tried using older flash utilities that came on motherboard driver disk, again with no luck. My bios is AMI. I've looked for a bios jumper on motherboard and disable/enable bios flashing in bios but can't see or find anything, even in the installation book. My system ijncludes AMD 1.2 ghx Tbird and 2 sticks of 128mb pc133 sdram
and a Geforce 2 gts 64mb ddr.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?

You should type:

C:\> aminf332 <name_of_BIOS.ROM>

I think aminf322 expects the name of the BIOS file as an argument.

Mick, thanks for the help. Your suggestion worked great. Whats irritating is that the instructions off of ECS's site tell you to do it another way, which of course didn't work. Thanks again.

Try another floppy. It might have encountered a bad sector or something...

You need to check your FSB settings in the CPU PnP section. When I upgraded my BIOS, I had to go back in and set it up as 133/133 again, since the new BIOS had set it back to 100/100.

Peter,

The problem with your CPU most likely isn't with the BIOS revision, but with the fact that you have to go into the BIOS setup, select the CPU PnP section and there set your SDRAM/CPU speed to 133/133 instead of 100/100. Try that BEFORE you upgrade BIOS.

One thing that you guys should all be aware of is that flashing the bios from a floppy disk can be dangerous as this does not always work. Floppy disks are generally less fault tolerant and slower than the hard disk, increasing the likelihood of a failed flash.

I would recommend having the AMI Flash program, and the bios ROM file in a folder on your hard drive. You can then boot using a floppy disk, but run the flash from the hard drive.

Jim, you are going to have to flash the bios from the floppy disk, unless you can get a small FAT partition on to your hard drive.
