all of the sudden, the default search when you type in the address bar is not MSN, it is "Almighty Search"
http://xml.overture.com/d/search/p/igetnet/html/domainlander/?Keywords=
how do o get the old one back (MSN) the trick that usually works, doesnt work using the search bar and changing the settings. it does this under ALL accounts under XP Pro!

Sincerely,
Brandon G.

Sounds like your registry has been hijacked. Take a look at this registry key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchUrl

The Default should be:

Brandon That program is part of IGetNet. It (IGetNet) is listed on Spybot Search & Destroy's hijacker list. In the future you may want to run a program like Spyware Guard, which blocks browser hijackers from writing to your registry.
http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html. It will stop processs and ask you if you want to change the settings, when a hijacker tries to come onboard. It runs quietly in the background, and I haven't had any conflict between it or any of the other spyware, or for that matter any program period, that I am currently running. Try running Spybot Search and Destroy to delete the one you are having the prob with. God luck bro!

Eric what OS are you running? If it's XP go to add/remove programs in the control panel, and click on the Add Remove Windows Components on the left side. Open that and uncheck internet explorer and then it will be uninstalled. Reboot and go back and check it again and reinstall it and see if its working when it comes back.

Yeah I do have XP, but when I click that box you talked about it only removes IE from the desktop and start menu, and this doesnt help at all....any other ideas? I can remove IE completely if I go to Add/Remove programs, but I couldnt figure out how I would reinstall IE afterwards...I checked my CDs and couldnt find it on them.

Don't you just wish you could give these f**ked up companies a hot lead enema? Open up IE and go to View / Explorer Bar / Search. Click on Customize from the side bar and see if you can change any of those settings.

I have the same problem except its with another stupid malware(as detected by adaware) throjan(as detected by housecall).
THEY DO have an uninstaller BUT, there were 8 programs being installed
internet optimiser, ??match_sg, some sort of dialer, xxxtoolbar, padnscap r something like that(two similar types with diff names), couple others some exe files..

The thing is i manage after 8 long hours to disrupt thier services..
Things i did,
uninstall and reinstall ie6 both using add/remove and download the ie6setup.exe NEITHER works to restore ie6
the uninstaller works to uninstall only 2 program and doesn't work to restore ie6
Deleted all certificates and deleted index.dat(to reset browser settings i read up somewhere), reset all internet browser options, (still doens't work in preventing a second attempt to test the site whether i would be affected again. i still am and each time i return to the same page i get infected again) means certificate is useless as a protection after it manages to inflitrate
deleted all throjan files manually(atleast this works when i dun return to the stupid site) (and i am in no mood to return to the stupid site to try it out again..)

and i also tried all the options stated in this thread before i post this reply.. tried all the possible registry entires, regarding searchurl search, internet explorer\main ... NOTHING works !!

i love the autosearch feature by microsoft the best thing they ever created, i suppose, BUT the pain in the neck: i couldn't restore it and not even THIER farking microsoft site gave an idea on restoring ie6's auto search features ... customization clearly doesn't work and occasionally i dun remeber how i did it but the search result and display result appear on the left column search page and the main page continues to be blank ?!?!

i tried ? variant , search variant , find variant , NOTTHING works
this is what i get ..
http:///%20Variant1%20Variant2%20Variant3 and so on ..

and no i didn't have a typo .. it shows 3 "/"
http:///

i tried searching my entire HDD for that pattern and nothing turns up...
i'm reaching my 10th hour on it now .. gonna catch some sleep hopefully a kind and kindred soul out there can help me solve this "phenomenon"

PS: never buy email space from hotmail.com lol .. your are just paying them to give you more "UNCONTROLLABLE & UNBLOCKABLE" spam... they couldn't stop the spam so they sell you more space.. & then it'll get worse

You know Henry I'm having a hard time understanding what options you are talking about when you say IE browser search functions. Are you talking about the search selection on the start menu? You right click on start hit properties go to the start menu page, click customize and on the advanced tab under start menu items scroll to the bottom and make sure the search box is checked. Are you talking about the search function in the blue area on the left of the window? Right click on an empty part of the tool bar at the window top and hit customize.find search in the available tool bar buttons box on the left, and add it to the current tool bar buttons box on the right.Close the customize toolbar window and click on the magnifying glass and the search option will be in the blue box on the left of the window again. If that is not what you are talking about try explaining it again. I am kinda slow<g>
