I'm wondering if ATI has addressed the problems with drivers that the 9600 pro seemed to be plagued with? There's nineteen pages of user woes on this site alone.

I would consider this card if it has REALLY ironed out the bugs.

ok... at the risk of being flamed...

motherboard: asus p4c800
cpu: 3gig HT p4
ram: 512meg ddr400
os: win2k professional

i WAS running a nvidia ti4600 and getting good frames in halflife (dod)... i "upgraded" to an asus 9800xt. my frames are now lower than they used to be and im running with all the latest drivers for everything.

what the heck is going on? i researched the heck outa this rig before purchasing each compenent. why are my frames lower with the ati card???? someone please help!!!

using 32d mark 2001 im getting about 14000. with the ti4600 i was getting about 12000 (which is still low). i MUST be doing something wrong but i dont know what. like i said, im running ALL the latest drivers for each component. even flashed my bios. :-(

Somebody mentioned bugs with the XT aswell, yup!!

Crashes out of C&C general's saying it's over heating and i'm not even o'clocking the card .. yet!!!

Hmmmm i think Ati still have work to do ;)

Amazing card all the same it really is the best mid range graphics card out thr without question, saves spending silly money on 9800's which arn't really necessary for current gaming systems.

Boydzie

I think conflicts with sound card drivers, and maybe previous driver installations (nvidia still hanging around) could be your problem. Have you tried playing your games that crash with sound completely disabled to see if theres a difference in stability / performance?

I have a Powercolor 9600 pro (the crappy EZ version), and I was having lots of problems with Vietcong. I noticed that everything was running much more smoothly when sound was disabled. I have a Soundblaster Live 5.1 card, and Im running windows 98se and its tough to get new drivers for anything but 2000/XP.

Bear in mind also, that sometimes the latest drivers are not always the best. I think its a case of trying everything, until something works, then dont touch anything again...
