I can't get Halo to work it installs correctly but when I try to play the error message comes up that Halo has problems with my graphics card which is: 64mb nvidia Geforce 2 Mx (0x0110) I can't find the updates for this card on the official Nvidia site.
Can somebody please help me, thanks.

Ya, I'm running an Intel 3ghz HT 800mhz fsb with 1gb 400mhz ECC memory and an FX5200 128. I was forced to run at 800x600 with medium setting in order to have the game play smoothly.

I'm now in the market for a ATI9800.

By the way, I just beat the Halo PC version tonight. Pretty tight!

there are no co-op modes in the PC version. thats the only downfall

i have a celeron 2.6ghz and a radeon 9800 non pro and 640mb pc2100 and i can play the game on high settings at 1024x768

its all about the vid card man. geforce 2 mx400 wont cut it

I dont think thats correct... In my experience with the game.
If you run a dx7.1 card the game should run just fine (1024x768) but look quite poor(read absolutelys**t, i know i tried it with my mx460) full detail doesnt seem to effect it as it isnt shown anyhow.

If you run a dx8.1 card (ti4800) it will run pretty good as well. (doesnt look quite as good since all dx9 effects are not shown)

However dx9 cards are different, although they show the game properly in all its glory, this requires a lot more processing power to run(hence the reason a 5200 runs likes**t) only the top end dx9 cards would be able to run this at good frame rates at high resolutions.

If you want to run the game well, are on a budget and want to play the game with most of its detail i would suggest u get an older gen gpu that does say dx8.1 (radeon 8500 or TI, they are cheap/look pretty good and perform very well in this game, far better than a 5200)

5200's ares**t...pity u cant tell the game to run it in dx8.1 or dx7.1.
My mx460 would get better framerates..sure its lookss**t but that dont matter in a competion....

My PC ran it real bad too so I looked in the config file in the halo directory and went down to the Nvidia entry, just below the fx5200 fx5600 etc it says "forceshader=14" default, if you change this to "forceshader=11" then it uses pixel shaders 1.1 instead and I found that it ran a lot better on my fx5600, around 65 fps in parts dropping as low as 25fps when the action got going on mid detail 800x600. Also, I found that looking in the direct3d tab of the graphics card part, of advanced display properties window, and changing bitmap detail to 'blend' or 'high performance' gives a good performance gain if your really struggling (it makes it look quite a lot worse though).

ok everyone probably knows this by now, but I had to turn off antialiasing and anisotropic filtering to get it to run correctly. But I also have a Ti card so....

better yet, what is everyones opinion of this game??? Seems to me they reduced colors and made it really drab in an attempt to make the engine flow better with most cards....not to be a pesimist or anything cause I really desperately want a new game to kill my addiction for ut2k3 instagib.
Another downfall is that they dont offer 1920x1200 which is the native res for alot of widescreen lcd's. I ussually play ut2k3 at 1920 cause the overclocked 9800 can hang (just in case your sitting there going who the hell plays at that res.)....online too not single player. I think its just simply time to kiss opengl goodbye:-)

press ctrl-f12 in game to get a graph of the framerate showing up, it's a bit annoying but it works.

Ps. the game is ok but it has some really dull bits in between the amazing set-piece battles. As for the graphics, I dont think they have changed much at all from the xbox version (which is why it annoys me so much that it runs slow on my pc which could crush a bloody xbox in terms of power) except for increased resolution.

Open GL needs replacing by winter '04. Its had its full potential and games need to start looking even better! Even Direct X could do with a re-shape to make it more compatable :)

Just my opinion :)

Thanks

the Graphics drivers of today do support all vid cards back to GF2 i think so u shouldnt worry about drivers, oh by the way its hard to get rid of lag in this game because its so demanding from Hardware, even the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and Nvidia GF FX 5200 have problems with this game as of lag and such lol.

guess it doesnt really matter at this point......I was chatting with some people and it seems halo lags for days for everyone online. I personally tried it on 3 of my systems (2 with 9700pros,1 with 9800pro 256) and the colors are always dull. Evidentally the screenshots on the box and in the adds mean nothing as they are not a true depiction of the game.
Seems to me that microsoft is at it again.
