im starting to get an unusaul amount of hacker attacks. norton will stop them, and tell me all their domain info and ip addy, ect ect and even show me where its coming from. ive run virus scan many times (with updated defintitions) And norton cant find anything. What is the deal? im getting tired of these attack attempts. is there a virus scan out there that actually works?

Grant,\Which firewall do you have installed. Are you using the Norton firewall and anti-virus software?

If you have the IP, just nuke 'em. The hackers are just using your system for practice and play-time hacking. Or using your system to hack a bigger target. Which may leave you holding the bag if they commit a serious felonious attack. So you can either attack back. Of close up your ports and set up a good firewall.
But try a good trojan scanner. Odds are you installed a custom trojan and don't even know it.

I find Zone Alarm to be great. I set it to stealth mode and they try but can never break through.

Why bother with them, you got better things to do I'm sure.

If you are lucky, and it is a particular inexperienced or stupid hacker, you may be able to trace the IP back to an ISP. I have only had success busting one, but that one felt good!

If you do happen to have one not spoofing or hiding behind multiple proxies, and can get the IP address he/she is coming from, report him/her to their ISP. I know Comcast HATES hackers, and had the last one I caught arrested. (or at least that's what they told me, makes me feel better anyway!)

Good point Matthew, but I personally wouldn't waste my time.

Grant, when you say "hacker attacks" do you mean your firewall shows you are getting pinged? And are the IP address' from all different locations? If so, this is what is going on with me...I keep getting pinged and some show as high risk. Are these all hacker attacks or some attempt at denial or service attack?

Norton antivirus won't detect anything, since these are external attacks. If they managed to get past your firewall and plant their payload, then Norton would then detect the Trojan. What this shows is that your firewall is working properly.

If you're running a Windows OS other than 98/ME, you may want to try a prog called Slap! (http://www.securitysoftware.cc/apps.html). It allows you to sent a message back to the originating IP.

Are you using the firewall on your operating system? If you have windows XP, their firewall is pretty good. You might want to go to http://www.dslreports.com and start a basic free account, once you set that up, use the port scan and see which ports are open and try to close them off. That site can direct you to other sites who can show you how to get yourself secured.

Volcano 7+
pc 4000 512mb
40 Gb 7200 rpm

If it's worth doing, then it's probably illegal.
