Basically all you need to do is run fdisk to wipe the drive & repartition it, then run format to of course add a file system to the partitions, then install the OS again.

Visit this site http://fdisk.radified.com/ to learn who to do it, it's really very simple just take your time.

Hi,

Try this site also for easy to follow fdisk directions.

Fdisk will completely wipe your hard drive. Once you format the drive you then install Windows and your software.

I also suggest that Windows ME is not a good version of Windows. I suggest that you install Windows 98SE at least. 98SE will give you a much better OS with less troubles for you.

>> What the other guys say is true but...
Crowning myself the King Of Reformatting, I would suggest just using fdisk...

put a win98 install cd in and select "boot from cd"

whehn the
:/ prompt appears
type fdisk
hit enter
delete the partitions on the hard drive... dont worry about deleting its rlly easy and u say u wanna swipe everythin n e way... this will not do any harm to your hard drive other than erase everything on it :P

now do not create a new partition, but insert the installation cd of the OS u want to install...
hit the reset button on ur comp!

now the pc will load from the cd... if you are installing any windows XP's, then it works better this way cos XP creates its own partition and formats the disk... when u get to this stage in installation select:
format NTFS (quick) - this saves A LOT of time if you have a 160Gb hard drive :D *looks at self*

the rest is plain sailin! jus select the country you want the keyboard to be cos if u leave it as US instead of changin to UK, ur keyboard will type " instead of @ and @ instead of " - its frustrating!!! lol bin there done tht got the t-shirt!

now install all your drivers...
this order is my preferred:::

motherboard chipset drivers...
USB2! - this is important if using the asus p4g8x deluxe cos otherwise u cant use usb!
gfx card and direct x * ...whichever version is most compatible wiv ur card! 9 for me cos im a 9800pro boy!
sound...
LAN...

let me know how you go!

Chris

Create a bootable floppy with FDISK and FORMAT commands on the disk.

One small note regarding fdisk, when you delete partitions always delete in the following order

1/ any logical drives within an extended partition first
2/ then extended partitions
3/ then primary partitions

Otherwise you'll find yourself using the drive MFG low level format utility to get back the missing hard drive space.
