Hello all:

This is my first post and I'm hoping you experts can help! :)

bbasically the plug that goes from the wall to my Vaio laptop seems to be "shorting out" where it connects to the laptop. For a long time, I'd have to jiggle it to get the little "charging" symbol to appear, and tonight, it finally went kaput -- NO amount of jiggling, bending, pressing, etc. will work.

I have NO clue what to do, and my battery life is draining rapidly! :( Should I take it in for repair somewhere? Will it involve just getting a new AC adapter? Anyone ever experience or hear of this? I'm freaking! :(

Thanks,

Amanda

Well, I know I'm new, but that wasn't a very helpful post. But maybe that flies here... thanks, not.

The connection in either the laptop or in the adapter is loose (which ever plug you had to jiggle). If the cord itself is bad, it will be limp where it goes into the adapter or plug body. If the adapter socket contains the plug you had to jiggle, replace the adapter and cord. If the socket in the computer contained the plug you had to jiggle, you need to send the laptop itself to a repair facility. The Vaio is a good laptop, but it is known for being "delicate". Be gentle with anything you have to plug in and out of it.

I having the same problem. Computer and battery completely dead. Had the problem at seven months, it was adjusted by technician at store. Computer is one month away from warranty expiring had problem again.
Store shipped it to sony. Sony doesn;t want to honor the warranty. Says that technician detected "liquid damage" and will not honor warranty. I'm the only users of the lap top and there has been no liquid spills on the computer. pcg grz2660. It's probably not your adapter. My best guess is that it's in the actual connecection in mother board and it's a know defect.

This is a common problem with Vaio laptops. The solder connections that attach the adapter socket to the motherboard frequently break, causing an unreliable connection. The symptoms include:

Intermittent, random shutdowns
Lack of battery charging
A dead computer

We repair this problem for $150 plus shipping.

We appoligize Amanda,we don`t want this to go on but in the last 2 to 4 months this is becoming a regular thing here on HWA !! I do appoligize even though the moderator and CEO ,will not do much to stop this. If you continue to have this problem,I would suggest that you let an electrician look at the charger ,as it may be in the wiring on the charger. For the Sony Vaio to cost so much it does seem to be a lot of things going wrong about the time the warranty goes out. Good luck
