When the Found new hardware balloon shows up, just wait. Another one will open saying it found a new IDE bus. Then another one will open saying the new hardware has been installed. You don't have to do anything just wait.

I think this is a bug in the new VIA 4-in-1 hyperion drivers... after installing the new 4-in-1 my computer detected new hardware under the SCSI and RAID controllers in the Device manager. After searching around and trying everything (nothing worked)... I just uninstalled the entry under SCSI and RAID controllers. Scanned for new hardware changes .. and it didn't come back up. Rebooted.. and it didn't come up again. All is well now. If you have this problem I suggest doing the above... Unless you actually have a SCSI or RAID controller chip/card installed.

Did you install the mini port drivers? When I tried to install the new 4 in 1's I was told to remove the mini port drivers first. This is new and was not necessary on the old 4 in 1's. And are you uninstalling the old ones first in device manager?

I am also having the exact same problem as stated in the original message in this chain. I have an MSI SKT 370 PRO266 motherboard with a VIA Pro266+ chipset. I am using a virgin installation of WIN XP on a freshly formatted hard disk. One thing that confuses me, is that the XP driver message refers to needing a "via bus master IDE driver" yet the heading under the XP "control panel, system, hardware, device manager" menu lists it under "SCSI and RAID controllers". The "IDE controller" section shows everything is okay. The board does have a SCSI connector which I don't use. The documentation says it supports "IDE RAID" which I don't have. I only have an IDE hard disk on one IDE connecter and both a CD ROM and CD RW on the other IDE connector. The disk drive and the CDs seem slow (purely subjective). I'm confident I have them cabled and jumpered correctly. I think I've just talked myself into disabling the SCSI/RAID controller and forgetting about it. By the way, both the MSI and VIA websites are incredibly annoying to use- missing information and just when you think you've found something that will help, you hit a broken link. I've spent way too much time dealing with the shoddy documentation and bad drivers to justify the $ I saved by buying this board.

I just found the XP drivers on the Via website via a Google search. I could not find them through the links in the motherboard documentation. The Hyperion 4-in-one driver at the following url worked perfectly for me: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 . Now if I could only find their USB 1.1 PC to PC networking driver and their CPU fan control software, I would finally have everything that they promised would be in the motherboard retail box! Good Luck.

Don't ask me how but my problem is fixed. When i reboot i don't get the message new hardware found. Windows seems to have installed it as a SCSI controller. Happy to see that nagging windows XP balloon gone. Thnx for y'all help. Appreciate it.

I'm having the same problem only I'm running an Asus A7v133-VM mainboard

My device manager shows an exclamation next to "VIA Bus master IDE drivers" under "SCSI and Raid Controllers".

I can't seem to locate the appropriate drivers.... Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

If you don't have scsi or raid, you need to make sure the On-Chip IDE 1 and IDE 2 controller is enabled in the Bios. In the Chip configuration window have the "On Board PCI IDE Enable" setting at "Both". Scsi and Raid should not show up in the device manager if you don't have it.

Hi, I have the same problem and nothing works.
In the Chip Configuration the PCI IDE Enable is on Both and SCSI and RAID controllers show up with
lacking VIA bus master IDE drivers.

Hi.

Mobo : Asus A7V 133.

After an Fdisk / Format and re-install of XP, I had exactly the same problem yesterday.
Thats how I found this Topic (thank's, Google), and registered after finding a solution to my (Our) prob.

As I'm with a French OS, the terms may not be quite right, but I'm sure you can work arround the language barrier.

Device manager / click on " VIA Bus master IDE drivers " (with the yellow "?") / Proprieties /
Driver tab / Delete (or Uninstall) / Yes /

Back to the Device Manager, and " VIA Bus master IDE drivers " has disapeared ! Yessss !.

Just for the fun of it, I re-installed à second time the Via 4 in 1.
There again, everything OK.

Me thinks :
- I should not have tried to install an old version of the 4 in 1 before trying the updated ones.
- I should have un-installed the old drivers before installing the new ones.

Info :
On the ASSUS site (my Mobo), the 4 in 1 update is not (given) compatible with Win XP (95 to Mill only).
I found the drivers on Clubic.com ( http://www.clubic.com/ ), a French web site.

Any Comments ?
I sure would like some, as I dont't really know if everyting is Optimal and working fine.

Philippe.

It worked! I did what Phillipe G did and it worked perfectly! That was a really annoying problem. What was happening was my cd drives weren't being recognized. I am NOT a computer wiz but I CAN read and after reading the "blah blah" before installing the 4 in 1 (for the gazillionth time), I gathered that because this was not working properly, that could be why my cd drives weren't showing up. So I did the "Phillipe Method" and then I went to the site that D Cheney went to http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 and installed that and everything seems to be fine....for now! Glad I found this info! Thanks!

Coryn

I had the same issue that everyone on this thread has had. Windows keeps attempting to install the Via Bus Master IDE device. It assumes I have a SCSI device or RAID controller. I tried about 3 different 4 in 1 Via versions and it did not work.
After reading all of the posted suggestions, it finally dawned on me to go into the bios and look around. My motherboard is MSI K7M / K7 Pro. OS is Windows XP Pro. What I did was first uninstalled the SCIS VIA BUS MASTER device from the device manager. Then when rebooting went into the bios and the section that allows you to choose which drive to boot up from had 4 options. Mine are 1=floppy, 2=CDROM, 3=HDD0, and I disabled number 4 device so the BIOS does not look for a 4th device during boot up anymore.
When I saved the setting changes and booted into Windows it stopped finding the Via Bus Master IDE device to install. That's it.....YAAaaHOOoooooo. Do you YAHOO.?

I had the same problem. My motherboard is a VIA KT133; part of the GA-7ZX series. This seems to be something that happens with VIA chipsets and XP. I found no need to go into the Bios. Just did what Philippe G suggests in deleting/ uninstalling the VIA bus master IDE in device manager. Additionally installed the 4in 1 VIA driver pack before doing that. As long as all of the onboard drives are showing in XP itself and the PCI cards show as installed in the device manager then there's nothing to worry about.

But I am in agreement with you all on the poor technical support from the VIA driver websites....especially as the XP updates were a little slow to emerge.

All's well that ends well I guess..

Angela B.
