Tried posting this error, didn't get much of a response, so I'll try again, like before any help would be awesome.

Here's the deal, whenever I run any slightly demanding game (Half Life, UT2003, or sometimes any DivX video), I get this black screen and my monitor LED turns orange as if the video signal is gone, or the plug into the graphics card was pulled out during play. During this I also loose audio and the ability to do anything, so I'm forced to reboot. Very annoying, can happen at ranged from 10 minutes to 3 hours.
Specs: Windows XP Professional
Geforce FX 5200 128meg 53.13 ForceWare drivers (AGP, non-onboard).
Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0GHz
Biostar M7NCD nForce 2 chipset.
256 megs of PC3200 DDR Ram

At first I thought an overheating problem, but when I checked the temp directly after a lockup it was at 43 degrees celcius, then one of my comrades suggested a Graphics card overheating problem, which I have no way of knowing, because I don't believe there are any temp sensors on my card.

So, like I said, happens often, for almost any video situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

How the power supply, is it rated over 300W?

Maybe it's not providing enough power.

Yes, its 400W. Got that question before though :\

EDIT: Also, this happened before I upgraded my motherboard, I have since flashed the new one and formatted, still having problems. Latest drivers, mostly new hardware. Worked fine on any other OS except XP, but I would like to get it working on XP.

It could be your memory, have you tried memtest86?

http://www.memtest86.com/

Also, could possibly be your video card.

Have you tried another video card driver like the 44.03?
You could get it from the nVidia archive database.

Well memory is a good thought, but it did the same thing on different ram, so my only thought would be the video card itself, but it makes no sense, because I had no problems with 2000, 98 or 2003. Same happened on when I was on SDRAM 133 on a different motherboard.

What version drivers you guys running?? My little brother had to go back to 52.16 because Freedom Fighters restarted randomly on him....I mean like the machine would reboot...He's been playing the game for 24 hours and its fine lol...It should take 7 hours for him to beat it, but he gets so confused with the controls(what you get for playing CS for 8 hours a day for 3 years)....lol...

I would take the card back for an exchange. I had the same problem with my 9800 XT. I replaced the PSU, upgraded drivers, and nothing worked. So finally I exchanged the card and everything works flawlessly.

I seem to have the same problem. I get poor performance on games and i get a blackout where I hav to restart my PC and all the fonts become big. And every so often the screen flashes and then returns back as usual. I has been really bugging me for about 2 months, and nobody else could help. I have upgraded drivers and no change. Is it to do with the power of my PC? I dont know much im only 14!

thanks

So your saying I should by a new PSU, right? My current one is 300 watts-came with my advent 3206. Since then I have upgraded my ram to 512 and a new graphics card. What PSU do you reckon I should buy?

cheers

if you upgrade your computer, reinstall most modern games(halo, splinter cell)
use windows update drivers only tested by mirsocsoft. I use the 52.16 drivers after i got massive crashes with the 53.03 from nvidia not recongnized by windows update as the latest.

Eg. when you start a profile in splinter cell the settings get locked to the profile trying to change it causes crashes for me fx 5200 pci

just some layman view
