I just got a brand new system.....Installing Windows XP took me more than 6 hours!!!... After it was successfully installed, booting into windows took forever... In windows...everything runs soo slow..like pressing the start button takes 10 to open up...opening a folder takes 20 seconds!!! installing drivers is rediculous...takes like half an hour!!! Pressing control+alt+delete... looking at the performance tab...the cpu usage is always 100%, while absolutly nothing is running on the computer!!! i decided i would format the hard drive again and install windows again...took me another 7 hours to get that done... and the computer still runs at an extreme rate of slow speed! does anyone have an answer to this problem??? Thank you very much in advance....
By the way nothing is wrong with the tempratures CPU temp is 30C Case temp is 20C

well seeing as its slow before windows has loaded drivers then...... this is a tough one!
have you changed anything in the bios? is the 2500+ set up properly with an fsb of 166 and a multiplier of 11?
yes, use a different install disk (if u know the one you have its ok then you don't need to), then flash the mobo bios. if ur still having problems replace the videocard. make sure the RAM is properly/fully inserted, and all the cables as well. if you still have problems... my best guess is that you are one of the unlucky guys who got a damaged mb. should definately take it back and get it tested wherever u bought it from.
i just wanted to ask if the HDD is properly recognised (mobo bios flash will fix that too)
I don't think i can right now cuz my motherboard is not updated...i guess i can do it if i flash my motherboard... any more suggestions?
one more question.... my motherboard isnt the second revision, so it doesnt support 400 fsb, could i make it support that with a bios flash??? thanks...
It seems that you messed up the motherboard's BIOS Settings.
There are some troubleshooting steps you MUST take.
1. Reset your BIOS. If you are not sure how, check the manual. If still not sure, go with your PC back where you bought it.
2. Load the Optimized Defaults in BIOS.
3. Make sure to have "IDE HDD Block Mode" ENABLED (very important)
4. Make sure to have "CPU Internal Cache" ENABLED (very important)
5. Set it to boot first from CD.
6. Save and exit BIOS.
7. Make sure to install Windows XP from CD, this way the smardrive is installed, and you can finish the setup in 30 minutes, otherwise, if you install from an illegal CD, it is most likely that smardrive is not loaded, and your PC acts like an old 5x86 machine.
My advice is not to blame it on AMD, because AMD are producing processors. The BIOS is on your motherboard, and I am sure that your motherboard manufacturer set it to work acceptable on Optimized Defaults. Don't mess up with BIOS, or suffer the consequences.

My coputer is running fine now thanks to evryone...i flashed my bios and cleared my cmos...so i had to configure the bios again and everything is fine now...but i still have one question...my bios is Phoenix...and i couldn't find anything to do with L2 or L1 cache...im my users manual...they show another bios where it is called "CMOS Setup Utility"..i actually saw an option for L1 and L2 cache in the "advanced bios features".. so does anyone know how to get the L1 and L2 cache option on my bios?
The option for the L1 and L2 is in the "Advanced Bios Options" so everything is normal. Just make sure that they are both "enabled" If you reset everything they are enabled if it's running good tho so there's actually no need to mess with it.
So...if it's running right don't touch anything else in the BIOS is what I would recommend.
