Is it possible to manually upgrade a given projector to higher resolution by removing the prcessor and replacing it with a higher resolution processor? For example, could you turn an SVGA 800x600 (e.g. InFocus X1) into a higher resolution, say, SXGA (1280x1024) or even UXGA (1600x1200) just by swapping processors??

It's not the processor that governs the resolution - it's the liquid crystal screen that the light shines through, and this can't be simply changed for a higher resolution one - all the controlling electronics would need to be changed as well.
