We had the same error message and failure to start the game with "Star Wars Jedi Outcast". We downloaded the GL Direct 5.0.2. for Windows XP and it did the trick for us.
Thanks for the tip.

Yes, youve guessed it. Ive been getting this error message too whenever i try to load up Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Im running an ATI Rage Fury Pro/Xpert 2000 Pro on a Windows M.E system. Ive had this error for about 4 days now but before that, my games all ran fine. Can anyone help me out?

>> a similar problem.....
i used to get that same message on my RTCW:ET. i tried absolutelly every single one of the above on all the pages (seriously)!!! I dont get the 'open gl subsystem' message anymore, but a 'it is highly unlikely tht......blah blah blah........current resolution, click cancel if you have a 3dfx voodoo, voodoo 2...(other voodoos)....3D accelerator installed, or click OK to try anyway. If i click OK, i get a solid grey screen and then a box saying "ET has caused an error in <unknown> and will shut down......" whereas if i click cancel, i get a solid grey screen that flickers on and off for a while, then a black screen with no mouse, and the introduction music to the game, but with no picture. Like i say, i have tried almost all the suggestions above and none have made any significant improvement. Any further suggestions will be much appreciated as this is one kick-ass game.

Windows ME Thanks in advance Steven :)

hi there

I think that i ve found a definite solution for the "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem"

after checking that ur vga card has the openGL of course

Try downloading SciTech GLDirect drivers which are a free 21 days trial version at

http://www.scitechsoft.com/products/enterprise/gld_home.html

install the drivers and then start ur games which gave the error message and they ll work fine

then close the game restart the whole system and then go to start----->programs------->sci tech----->uninstall and uninstall the drivers u have just downloaded

try working the games again and every thing will be fine

Sherif: I did exactly as you described and everything worked well with the game (RTCW). But then I uninsalled GLDirect, as you wrote, and the game won't launch.
What did I do wrong?

I'm also having this problem with Return To Castle Wolfenstein. I have an GeForce2 video card and the game used to run fine on it before. All that's different now is I have a new hard drive and my computer has been formatted. Now I install RtCW and try to run it and that's what I get. Could not load OpenGL subsystem. Any idea how to fix this?

I'm having almost the same problem as Mike Knox. I used to play RTCW on this very same computer a year ago. Then it worked perfectly fine, no problems at all. I uninsalled the game because I got tired of it. A week ago I re-installed the game and it did not work. All I get is this anoying message: "Could not load OpenGL subsystem."
Something must have happened to the "Open GL-library" but I don't know what, I don't know why. I didn't format the HD, there are no new hardware. It's the same old computer as it were a year ago.

I fixed it. Just uninstall the game, update your video card drivers, reinstall Direct X and then reinstall the game and it'll work fine.

i got the problem that every one is on about. i got mohaa, and my gfx card is 32mb so thts fine.

in the handbook it tells u to go to ur manufacturers site (in my case http://www.nvidia.com) download the latest drivers and every thing should be good. i did that and it basically wrecked my pc couldnt get any graphics or colour so... any help would be great, email me on...

mohaabazuka@hotmail.com

P.S the thing is, i could play it before we re-booted the pc

i have a Nvidia RIVA TNT2 model 64

when i go on http://www.nvidia.com > download drivers > Graphics drivers > do i download RIVA 128 or TNT2?

i dont know what i downloaded but last time, i managed to fix it, the time after that it killed my display!
(dont want that happening again) so i need to know what exactly to download.
