I just recently upgraded my computer and I'm looking forward to the possibility of running hl2 :D

My question is what gcard would be the best for my system (a hard question i know.) I'm not looking to buy anything to insane im looking around a 9700pro-9800 pro but not a xt (considered 9600xt till i read this sites review :P hehe.) Also wondering what nvidia is offering around this range, and what would be the best way to go? I'm leaning towards ati buuuuuuut....

Im running;
xp 2500+
k7n2 delta mobo
512 ddr (400 fsb capable)
And a 350w power supply (buying that next currently 200 w :S)

9700 pro is practically in the middle of the 9600 XT and the 9800 Pro, the 9700 Pro is 256 Bit just like the 9800 Pro, all the 9800 Pro is practically a Refined 9700 Pro excluding the Chip they used, R350 is R9800 Pro, R300 is R9700 pro.

suggestion would to go with Hercules, Visiontek, Sapphire, Tyan, HIS. Stay away from Powercolor.

You May want to get a 400w or larger PSU as the min. required is a 350w!

I would go with the 5900Ultra with your board have heard it had some problems with ATI cards, but i think they were fixed with a BIOS update! So if you get the 9800Pro and have problems get the latest BIOS update and you should be good!

ATI - I would go with Hercules or Sapphire the have the best aftermarket coolers on them and ATI's do get hot!
Nvidia - I would go with Gainward, Chaintech, or Leadtek!

Yeah I think I'm going to call the guy who is getting me my new case and power supply box and bump it up to a 400w just in case...you never know :P I would really like to find a good deal on a 9700 pro but they dont make them anymore as far as i can tell...I have seen some sapphires on the net but they are all in wonders.....which im not too sure about but they seem to just have alot of stuff with them that i dont require. Thx for your posts guys and if you have any more suggestions feel free I'm not in a huge hurry, if you know of or see any deals it would be great if you could drop me a message.

thx again

Well I got my guy to upgrade my power supply to a tru 400w. This is all gonna look very nice in my chenbro gaming bomb case. Except for the lack of a niec g card, hehe still got the gf4 mx440... And yes it would be easier to go for a 9800 pro so maybe i'll wait till they are a little cheaper here in the next few months... I just for some reason really like the 9700 pro....

Dan the 5700 Ultra is a very good vid card. ddr2 and the core memory starts at 475mhz and the other is 900mhz .This is what it starts at stock not many vid cards can say that. look into it and see what you think.

Man try this site for prices http://www.pricenetwork.ca its very helpful.

BTW where did you find that 9800pro for $299??? Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn is it a Sapphire??

The 9700 Pro is an excellent card, so is the 9800 pro for a little more cash, and if you get a card made be Sapphire make sure you get a new HSF cause theirs suck ass lol, mine didnt even work when I got it. Get a TT Blue Orb, or Iceberq 4 (I use this one works very well :))

Why is everyone bedazzled by clock speeds on Nvidia cards??? Obviously by now they should know that a radeon with lower clocks can beat out a geforce card. It does happen you know... lol

Look at AMD and Intel

Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2ghz is faster than a 3.2 ghz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition.

Just because a 5700 has a 475 clock and 900 mem speed doesnt mean its better than a 9600pro/xt , 9700 n/p, 9800 se... hell the 9600xt has a core of 500 mhz+! Yet the 5700 takes a beating in shader intensive apps, or even when AA/AF is used.

Nvidia clock speeds mean almost nothing these days...
