David,

I think you did a typo here-do you mean "cisvs.exe"? If so, type "services.msc" in the Run dialog box, find the Indexing Service in your list, right click it, select Properties, and then in the Startup Type field, select "Disabled". Restart the computer and it will stay disabled.

I had the same issue with the cisvc.exe. There was no typo. Is this s virus that my Norton did not catch? Can I delete it or am I better off disableing it?

Help me out here. My HD is running at 90%.

Thanks,

Gerry

It's the content indexing service. Since the indexing service is optional you should be able to stop the service with no ill effects, maybe slower searches but that's it. However, it could be a Keylogger that your antivirus/firewall missed. You can do a scan for it on the Symantec site if it is, though you have Norton - is it up to date?

I suggest you try this:

Right click My computer and choose manage./ Drop down Services and Applications/ Choose Services/ Change the Startup type of the Indexing Service to Manual and restart your machine. --- or --- go to Admin Tools/Services and make Indexing Services manual instead of automatic. That way you can run it when it won't bother anything else.

If you still have the problem when you restart, it's not the Microsoft service that's causing your issues, it's likely a Keylogging Program that your spyware software did not detect or fix. If this is the case try another brand of spyware software.

Don't foget to change the startup type of the Indexing Service back, if you want it to run automatically.

Ick...the indexing service sucks. No one should run that for *any* reason whatsoever.
