I would play games and then at some point, my whole comp freezes on me and I just hear this long continuous beep. I can't soft boot or do anything whatsoever. I can only reset with the switch and it runs scandisk and windows comes back ok again. This problem happens randomly.

Hmm, sounds like either a driver problem or hardware. What are your specifications?

Off the top of my head I can think of a few things... heat, driver problems, RAM, power supply... just to name a few. A little more information is need though.

I would suggest taking out a few fans if the computer is freezing, and perhaps turn up the heating real high in the room of your computer. If that doesn't work, try putting it in the oven :)

If you mean the computer stops responding, that problem is usually because some hardware/hardware drivers are not set up correctly. I always start with looking inside 'system' and 'device manager' to check, and then find any drivers that are not installed properly so I can sort them out.
Windows XP is a very stable OS so more than likely you need to look at your hardware configuration

If you are using win9x or ME, upgrade the OS and install updated drivers.

If your machine only freezes when it's playing a game, the first thing I'd look at would be overheating in either the CPU or video board. Do you have a thermal checker on your motherboard that you can monitor? Gaming puts a lot of stress on your system whereas typing on a forum does not.

You might also want to use a diagnostic tool like SANDRA or the like to check your components. Just a suggestion.

P4 2.5 Ghz
32 MB ATI video card
256 SDRam
OS: Win98SE

It's annoying because it does that when I'm at a good part in a game and it seems to know the exact moment to p**s me off. I can't save in time either. I'll look into SANDRA and see if it helps. If anyone has more suggestions or ideas, please let me know. Thank you.

I checked SANDRA out and it says my motherboard fsb is over chipset rated speed. It's at 4x 133 mhz but it's suppose to run at 4x 100 mhz / 2x 133 mhz. I tried to go to my CMOS to change the voltage to 100 but it's locked. I cant change it even by pressing page up and page down. I don't know what to do?

That would probably explain it. Clear the CMOS by removing the battery for a second or resetting the 'clear CMOS jumper' and see if the BIOS lets you change the value to what it should be.
