I thought the hard drive needed to be hooked up as well?? But I have switched drives to a "good pull", to no avail.

Next idea please??

You might want to try to set that dipswitch on the mb to 133. If you have check that the mb is secured to the case properly.

whateva i do what i want

Are you using thermal paste? (if you've read my story, you'll know why I ask =) )

I know my share about computers, but this one has me stumped. I have this motherboard along with an Athlon XP 2200, a Radeon 8500, and 1024 Crucial ram. The first time I built it, it booted up perfectly. I have 3 hard drives, 2 I wanted to be raided, so I installed the RAID drivers, rebooted, and it froze in the middle of booting. I shut it off, went to turn it back on, and it hasn't posted since. Once in a blue moon it will post for some reason, but when I turn it off, it doesn't turn back on. I tested all the Crucial components, and they all seem to work. I have a 400 and something watt PSU, I have a 100 gig HDD on IDE and 2 120 gigs on RAID. I have no clue what's going on. someone PLEASE HELP =) I don't have a PC speaker hooked up. All I have is a seperate power switch I bought seperately since I built my case myself. The only thing I am thinking is that there MIGHT be a short somewhere, but I have no idea where or how I would test this. Thanks a lot

Normally a short would prevent it from booting 100% of the time, so unless you wiggle it inbetween boots I wouldn't worry about a short. Have you tried just a single drive hooked up to the normal IDE channel? Or 512megs of ram rather than 1 gig?

Does anyone know where to get the IR and Smart Card Reader ports?

I recently upgraded to the GA-7VAX and had no problems with it (running XP1700+ w/PC2700 RAM, ATI 7500 64DDR, Windows 2000). I swapped my board out troubleshooting someone elses system and now have the 7VAXP. I hope I don't run into the problems you all have!!! I'll let you know tomorrow.

I have just got the GA-7AXP for x-mas and I am about to set it up within the next few days, I have a few questions, I have a athlon 2100+ processor, 256mb pc3200 samsung memory model number (K4H560838D-TCC4), I looked in the manual and it is listed on page 103 in the manual as being one of the recommended (pc3200) memory modules. My question was how should I set up the processor and memory speed using the jumper settings or in the post setup: Dram Clock speed, CPU overVoltage, and Dimm OverVoltage, bus speed, I was thinking of 133, what settings worked for you what do you recommend? I also have a fan/heatsink and thermal paste for the processor.

Thanks everyone

Brian: IDE3 and 4 are the RAID option on the board, so you can only use them with hard-drives. If you need to hook up 1 cdrw and 1 dvd reader just use a two-plug ide cable and make one the master, the other the slave.

Other guy who's name I can't remember:
How big is your hard drive? I remember reading that 98 will have issues with any drive bigger than 80gbs. If you don't a drive larger than 80, does bios and windows detect all 512megs of your ram? If they do, check your swap file setting. Make sure it's on a drive with enough free space. Normally it's good to have a swap file twice the size of your system ram. So you'd need a 1gig swap file. (Not need, but it would be reccomended.)

Hey thanks for the help

I call gigabyte. They said just switch the CDR and Dvd( which were on IDE3) to IDE 4

And it worked.

BD - did you set the multiplier to 'auto'?

Justin - need more details. Unless the cpu is unlocked, you need to leave the multiplier at 'auto'.

Justin: If you've got a cpu with a 333mhz fsb the fsb needs to be set at 166 and you need to have DDR ram with a 333mhz or greater bus speed.
