The cute gold northbridge fan on my board now makes an awful loud vibrating noise when first starting up. If I touch the fan to momentarily stop the blades the noise stops. I wish it was just a heatsink now since it is the loudest fan in my system since I replaced the load 60 mm fan on my CPU heatsink with a quiet 80 mm fan and adapter. I know it will never be as quiet as my old pentium II system (silent) but I'm trying to tame the roar!

What is the quietest 80 mm case fan anyone has used?
Vantec?

Hi. I just wanted to put in my two cents. This isn't a specific reply to anyone.

I have Rev 1.1 of this board. When i first started I had mabny random crashes, mostly during 3D apps. I olved most of my problems by disabling the top-performance setting and getting better cooling. Although, I also discovered a bad Corsair RAM chip and the cheapy PNY brand from best buy has been really stable.

Also, I have a GF4 Ti4200 and finding the best drivers seemed to clear up a lot of problems. I went thru bout a dozen versions of the detonator drivers before I found one that was pretty stable. 3Dmark runs flawlessl now.

Thanks for the ctrl-F1 tip in BIOS, I didn't realize those settings were there and I am going to go play with my latency settings.

Yeah i have one and is working fine.

The only problem is i have distorted sounds and music with the onboard SB128 chip whenever i am accesing (copy, paste, read) my LG 52x CD-Rom. The songs i played while i am using the CD-Rom become distorted. This happens as well when i am playing VCDs with it.

The problem doesn't happen to my LG 40x Writer.

I have tried installing the updates drivers for the SB128 Chip but remain the same.

Anyone out there please help me. Thanks

Just thought i'd let people know that i tried 1x512 ddr400 of Corsair today, with "top performance" ENABLED,and it ran rock solid.

I also tried 1x512 ddr333 "elixer"ram with top performance disabled and it wouldn't boot at all.

But i get better 3dmark(2001)scores with ddr333 ram(between 50-100 points)Considering that the Corsair is around $400(australian),i think i'll keep the 333.

$400 is what the board(7vax)and 2100 cpu cost.

Hi, just got a VAXP board, and the problems started ......
It seems that most of my big packed files (game installation files, for example) are corrupted. Counterstrike wont install, if i try to burn something from my harddrives to cd and install them, installers reports about I/O errors and corrupted files, CRC errors and stuff ?? God damn, does this mean all my data has been corrupted on my hd's, or is it about IDE controller beeing faulty on VAXP or what ??
From original Game cd's, all are doing fine.
I have re downloaded few big mod packages, this seems to help in some cases, but always.

Pls help....beeing desperate here.
I have xp 2600 512Mb samsung 333 mem
Geforce 4
Audigy player
Hauppauge WIN tv PCI
And VAXP mobo offcource.

>> Kickin Grass
Guys, I just enabled the raid controllers and went full blown balls to the wall on the system and it is kickin grass. I love this thing. I had a shuttle board and that was impressive, but this thing is off the scale.

I admit it was not the easiest thing to configure, but the one thing that applies more than anything else is--read the manual!! Everything that applied to the old boards does not hold true anymore so be very carefull when reading. I know that I missed several key point and upon re-reading everything, it was all in front of me.

Hello. I just got a new ga-7va motherboard but I realised that despite the fact it has on board sound it doesn't work and it shows me that I have a pci and in the end I don't have neither of them. what can I do? I tried to install the drivers from the cd but a message appeared telling me that there is not on board chip that produces sound on the mainboard. what can I do? maybe something with the jumpers?

Lets start by saying that I thought that gigabyte was a s**tty company when I bought the GA-7VRXP and was very unhappy with it as it would not run my older video card (GF4 MX420) and had many other problems. I took it back and the store swapped it for the GA-7VAXP and I have had no problems since. The 6 channel sound works great, 8X AGP has fit in nicely with my new ti4200 from MSI.
So.... To answer some questions that people have on this message board. The "Top Performance Settings" in the Bios are total crap! They only set it up to run the cpu in top performance and nothing else. The best thing to do is reset to default, and change the settings manually according to the hardware you are going to use with the board. Also keep the drivers updated for your hardware because most times thats the problem because windows like to load the oldest drivers it can find and cause poor performance.

I've found that, when using 333ram(1x512)if you set it to 266 in the bios, you can use as much as you want with the top performance setting.

In the 3dmark 2001,the difference in scores is around 100 points with the above settings.I haven't noticed any difference in loading programs or playing games. If i set it to 333ram and disable top performance the 3dmark scores differ by about 600 points.

So i believe, that if you're going to use 1x512 of ddr ram,and you want to use the top performance setting, the best way to do it,is by setting the memory to 266,and there won't be any stability problems.

Cheers.

Had a few probs since I got the board, sent it back and it wasn't the board. Found out it was the memory, unfortunately when I sent it back, stupidly not by recorded delivery, eclipse are saying they haven't received it, so I was left without memory! Now ordered 512mg 2700 memory from aria for £40, the same I paid for the original 256mb 2100!

I won't find out if my original memory was faulty but it has been fine with 256mb 2100 borrowed memory(toshiba)

Only probs have been random crashes which I think are overheating, now ordered some artic 3 paste(new silver variety) and hope that by next week I can go back to enjoying my computer!

Will let everyone know how I get on with my new memory

Hey guys,
I just installed 512 PC3200 DDR-400 Samsung. The board only sees 256 when I run it at 400, but when I back it down to 333 it recognizes all 512 and it screams. I wonder if there is not a memory size limitation on the DIMM slots for running DDR-400 like there used to be for the older SIMMs when they first came out. Any one else seen this?

Hey guys,

I got my GA-7VAXP this week and a XP2000+ CPU.

I've read all the posts about the CPU reading slower than it should be.

Mine is not reading at 1667MHz either.

What should my CK_RATIO switches be set at and my SW1 switch?

I have Gigabytes phone #, I thought I would try here first though.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

By the way,

When I get the right switch settings, do I have to pop the battery to clear the cmos (since there is no jumper on this board) first, before re-booting?

Thanks again.
