I know some of you have a AV/DV external amp and a 7VAXP.

Just wanna do the same.

If i want to use a Coaxial cable only, (and video cable off course), SPDIF don't work => options are grayed in the AC97 sound configuration software.

how to do that ?

thanks

Ant,

I've run 2x256Mb DDR333 and 1x512Mb DDR333 on an AT7MAX2 stabily and reliably. Now on the other hand I'm running 2x Corsair DDR400 512Mb's and they're great. If my solution doesn't fix the problem for the poster, it may help others (it did for me!!)

AMD XP2800+
1Gb Corsair DDR400
All In Wonder Pro 9700
Audigy Platinum
Abit AT7-MAX2
2x Diamondmax+9 160Gb (Striped)
Maxtor XT5000 250Gb Firewire External HD
Plextor 40/12/40a CD-RW
NEC ND-1300a DVD + - RW

I can't get my stick of Kingston 512 MB PC2700 Hyper-X to work properly in this board. It keeps crashing and rebooting randomly, escpecially in 3D apps (games). My old PNY PC2100 worked fine. Ironically, I also had a 256 PC 2100 Kingston which did not work either.

Is there actually a revision 2.0 of the GA-7VAXP?

Don't be scared when your DDR400 Ram modules don't work

Never wondered why on KT400 there was an unofficial support for DDR400???

and never wondered why Via announced the chipset KT400A with DDR400 supported???

On Apollo KT400 chipset the official support is for DDR200 DDR266 and DDR333 Ram modules only and unofficially for DDR400

4 pete

in the magical Ctrl-F1 bios menu try to put on manual setting and to raise up the CL setting(should be Cas delay or something similar) .
Maybe the on-ram timing chip try to use too fast timings so force it to slower timings.
However i think it's a matter of luck. i have a Twinmos M.Tec CL2.5 256MB ram bank and now it's working with almost all timing set faster with no problem(i forced CAS Latency to 2 with no problem), and i payed it less than an half of a Kingston HyperX 256MB DDR333 CL2

Well frankly I don't know what to think of this board... When i got my new parts and assembled them (VERY CAREFULLY), everything ran fine, and performance was excellent. Then, a few weeks later, everything seemed to go wrong - crashes, BSODs, then hard drive errors, and ultimately, the comp wouldn't even post! After messing around with it, trying everything, I gave up and chucked my old mobo back in. Then, after another month or so, I just got an urge to try it all again. Again, I made sure I was extra careful in setting everything up, and made sure I RTFM (read the f***ing manuals!). Voila, everything's working fine again. What the hell is going on, I'm saying to myself... But I'm not going to relax yet... it might screw up on me again sometime... But when it works, it works fine :)

Two issues, however - the driver cd that came with it is stuffed. Now I read in an earlier post you can download them from the web. However, I want Norton Systemworks 2002 which is also on the cd, and i'm sure u cant download that... can u?
Finally, I read in an earlier post someone had the same problem as me - the damned fan on the northbridge heatsink is making a frightful vibrating noise. I've taken it apart numerous times, but can't seem to fix it. Anyone have a solution? Has anyone tried running it without the fan? I mean, its just the northbridge... its got a heatsink on it anyway....

Thanks

I didn't but I know that it's in the manual on how to connect it up

See bio for system setup.

james lee, it was me that was having the prob with the northbridge fan, when I turn the computer on for the first time in the day, it makes the noise. Just after the comp has started up, a min or two the fan sounds like it dies and the noise goes. I watched the fan through startup and it spins fine and despite numerous attempts at stopping it it won't go away...
I was thinking of running without the fan, but may buy a new one as the computer is too noisy with the retail amd fan and too hot, so will get all together.

It is still under warranty, but I can't be bothered with the hassle of sending it back!

If you find out what the prob is let me know and I will vice versa!

The fan on the Northbridge sucks and there was no reason for them to use a fan in the first place. Buy a heatsink replacement. for it at http://www.endpcnoise.com. It's about 10 bucks and has been working like a charm.

Well I posted a similar enquiry on the anandtech forum and got this reply:

I'll see if I can find another 40mm fan that I can replace it with :P

I've got one.
AMD 2200+
old 20G HDD
old 24x CD
old 8x CD-R
old win98 install
old everything else

First problem: windows didn't recognise either CD drive, not even in safe mode. Knoppix to the rescue, to copy the gigabyte CD to the hard drive.
Install smooth from there, no worries.

Second problem: 2200+ chip recognised by BIOS and windows and cpuz as 1800+. discovered (from this thread, not amd's instructions!! that i had to set the FSB to 266. chip ok, everything goes faster.

no other problems at all.

Got one also

AMD2400+
Gforce TI500
twinmos CL2.5 512 Mb

Was running just fine until ..... I plugged a second (exactly the same) mem stick in the board (2 x 512 Mb).

I got IRQ errors, everything you name it. I could not even install XP (never had problems before). Switchi8ng BIOS back to optimize settings also did not help.
The only thing that did help was getting rid of the memory.

I turned it back to 1 x 512 and everything was runnning fine again.

My guess is that the Gigabyte mortherboard has problems with either:
- more than 512 MB
- or more than two mem sticks

The mem was not the problem, I returned it and turned out to be good mem !!

Just a follow-up of the noisy Northbridge fan problem... I removed the gold face-plate on it, and reattached just the fan... the noise seems have gone away... it's a little tricky, as the construction is a bit shoddy - there aren't actual screw holes, they just screw into the gaps between the fins of the heatsink :P very cheapo feel :P

Don't think I'll bother with that one jaymes, wait till I get back off my travels next year and buy a new heatsink and fan - maybe they will have completely silent ones by then. yeah right!

I have one too... and plan on putting it in the garbage. After running any program fof more than 5 minutes, then trying to start a new program, I have to wait 2 minutes before the darn thing starts.... What a piece of junk!!!

I do have such board... I have had stability problems running various apps. I finally got fed up and reinstalled XP (three times --its the magical charm number) however after forcefeeding XP down the boards "throat", I then went and installed the VIA 4 in 1 drivers that came with the board (not all 4-in-1 drivers are created equal) ... Im not trying to pick a fight but I NEVER have been a big VIA fan since a debacle with a win2k install that forced me into buying a new computer (intel BX chipset based)... To make a long story short: after the installation of the drivers from the packaged CDROM (or going to the website and downloading it and burning it on CD on a more reliable system ... ) I havent had any problems thus far ...keeping my fingers crossed ... with apps crashing in the heat of the moment ... I do have an ABIT KT7 board (not "A") that exhibits somewhat the same stability problems and am going to install the 4-in-1 on that system as well (the system was bought from someone that didnt have all the disks for the system) if the 4-in-1 doesnt work then make sure that the "Top performance" option is disabled ! its a massive pain in the digital butt!!! thats my 2cents plus tax ... hope it helps ...
BTW I did run into a situation installing XP and it reporting back that I had a bogus copy ... just force feed it again (make sure the partition is hosed and such ... and I am using LBA instead of LRG wich made a big difference somehow... l8r for now ....
