Does anyone seem to have a problem with the time it takes to load in a new application? Example, when running any program, then switching to something else, It can take up to 2 minutes to start the new app. Is this a memory issue, maybe? Or a bad harddrive controller in the bois (though i didnt have this issue with my Asus mobo using the same harddrive)? Any Help PLEASE?!!?

BTW i think i've found a solution to my mobo headaches

if i RMA this board and it comes back broken, i'm just going to trash it, file a complaint with the better bussiness bureau.

Post your complaints as well! here is the link!

http://complaints.bbb.org/Welcome.asp

THEN I SHALL DO THE IMPOSSIBLE!

buy another board from a reliable company. usch as Abit, Asus, or MSI.

I have a GA-7AXP Rev 1.1 XFX Gforce4 8X AGP Athlon XP 2400 overclocked to XP 2800 and cheap 512mb DDR 2700. I have a chieftek case with four fans and a nice SLK 700 copper heatsink with a tornado delta 80mm on it. All the fans are controlled by pctoys system max. I actually am impressed how stable it is. It just keeps going and going.

Eye Scum - I had the same problem with my Gigabyte with file browsing and application running. You double click say Pocomail or Outlook and you had enough time to make a cup of coffee before the app hs launched. It's a problem with how the board handles IDE traffic using the VIA enhanced IDE driver. My advice is to uninstall the IDE driver or better yet return the board as faulty and buy an alternative.

Just for everyone's enjoyment - I sent my GA7VAXP by to my supplier (Scan Computers) for testing, they found errors with the AGP Controller, IDE Controller, Northbridge, Promise RAID and the ATX connector. Scan have now pulled this board from the portfolio. Mkes you think!!!!

Hey, how the f**k do you set higher multipliers than 12.5 on 7VAXP rev 1.1 ?

I understand that Gigabyte is playing with us, they removed one switch from SW1 in 1.2 rev - this is supportable, because you just solder it back. But I NEED a 13.5 multiplier, because:

My Tbred 1700+ can run at 2300MHz, but all my other s**tty components (or maybe just one :) ) crash at any little FSB adjustment - so I'm stuck at multiplier increase method, where I get only
12.5 x 170 = 2137MHz.

And wow! , I set the FSB to be only 166, but my crazy mobo makes it itself to be 170. Also for 133 MHz I get 136MHz with no questions asked :). And let's not talk about this mobo's idea about default voltages :)

Please, if you know any software/hardware way, help me.

Sounds alot like memory problems. These boards are partial to Winbond chips (ie. Kingston HyperX and Crucial) and tend to fail with the high performance setting on and any out of spec memory timings.

I am using HyperX cas2 333mhz at autodetect with a 1700+ JIUHB, and have not had a single problem with an overnight Sandra burn in - stable as can be. I agree that it is not an 'overclockers' board, but is still a good value for the buck.

You don't need a bootable disk, you just need a disk with oemsetup.inf at the root of a:\. Download file using above link and extract to floppy, press F6 when windoze prompts for 3rd party drivers and presto, RAID loaded. If you are going to go through with this I suggest you use RAID 0 (mirroring) to protect valuble data, as you can tell from this forum these boards can be somewhat troublesome

I have had on and off problems with the system restarting on its own. It is pretty frustrating, though make sure you check your device manager to make sure everything's working. RAID wasn't for me so I uninstalled it and things worked smooth after that. Plus check out any Windows updates (though it seems like whenever I install DirectX 9.0 on this thing it goes haywire, so I'd avoid it).

I am having another problem with the board, though. I have Rev 1.2. I had a ton of problems last night, finally got just about everything back in running order except for one thing--the onboard Firewire card. I have it plugged in to the motherboard, checked out BIOS and it is Enabled, checked out Device Manager and it says it's working properly, yet when I connect my ADVC-50 analog-digital converter to it, nothing! It doesn't recognize that anything is connected.

I have been using this for the past week fine. But then I get all these problems last night and now the firewire isn't working. I tried uninstalling it in Device Manager, restarting the computer, then it will detect it again and reinstall it, but still it doesn't recognize any connections. I tried changing firewire cords, but no luck.

Any idea what happened to the firewire ports and how to fix it?

well you may have gotten rid of the virus, but if it was a bad enough one then it's already done its damage. Most of which is probobly irrepairable.

The only thing left to do is to reformat and reinstall windows.

Win98 is severely effected by viruses, i'd reccommend getting Windows XP Pro. XP has alot better security than 98 and isnt as vulnerable to viruses.
