Sorry about the double post. With regards to the nvidea FX5200 on the GA-7VAXP, it works just fine, even at Top Performance. However, this card doesn't like an overclock, so if your AGP bus frequency is too high, you will have problems.

Yeh I had and still have one GA-7VAXP. I replaced it once.
I had this problem when i played games, my comp restarted.
When i encoded it restarted and even had a blue screen
in xp! But i sent it to gigabyte and they replaced it to a new one
now no probs and its the best board i ever worked with.

Your AGP bus frequency follows along a fixed ratio with your FSB, so if you raised your frontside bus to overclock your CPU, up goes the AGP bus. You can play with these settings in Easy Tune4. I am unaware of a way to independently alter the AGP without altering the FSB. Perhaps someone else knows a way.

OK here is the deal. I got this MB with a AMD 2700+ XP, got 512 MB of ddr400, no graphics card yet. I haven't turned it on yet...still setting everythign up. I am lost at the CK_RATIO (multiplier) I don't know what this is. I would like to know where to set this ratio. My manual just tells me what combo makes what multiplier. I want to know what it is, and where to have it set for my processor. Can some one teach me, or direct me to a good source to learn about it. I would greatly appreicate it. Also, any know problems with this setup, or good ideas to make it better?

Please email me at arash@iglou.com
Thanks for all the help.

There are 3 ways you can upgrade the bios to F13 -

1) Select 'Gigabyte Bios Flash' from your Gigabyte Utility Manager and tick the 'Internet Update' box, then 'Update New Bios'. This allows you to flash the bios from within windows and is called the @Bios program.

2) Use the QFlash utility in your bios by hitting F8 when in the bios. You will have to download the F13 bios to a formatted floppy.

3) Upgrade the bios from within DOS by downloading the F13 bios to a formatted and bootable floppy and then boot from the floppy. Run the F13 file and it will execute.

The easiest way for those not used to bios flashing is #1, however I have used all three and they all worked well for me. You can find more complete instructions on the Gigabyte bios upgrade page.

claudio: i've had the modded f13 bios but wasn't exactly sure what the PLL divider translated into. ie, 1/5, 1/6 etc. any hints?

I've had the board for over almost 7 mos... been a great board and no issues other than my 2000XP crapped out on me. I thought it was the board, but it was just that the CPU was pretty much faulty. I replaced it with a 2800XP and it is running fast and stable.. no issues.

2800XP
2 512 DDR 2700 Samsung memory
80 Maxtor 7200 8 MB
80 WD 7200 8MB
30 WD 7200 2MB
20 WD 7200 2MB
430 Watt True Power Antec Power Supply
ATI Radeon 8500

My GA7 VAXP installed easier than any I've ever built. I'm presently running it with an Athlon 2000XP, 512Mb RAM, ATI 9000 (128MB RAM)and have had no problems whatsoever. My primary use for this particular computer is Graphics--no, I'm not a "gamer". I love this board!

Check your mem config & sys settings, turn spread spectrum off & set all mem config to default... I'm running the VAXP-Ultra, w/ 512megs of OCZ DDR433(pc3600), Maya II 9700Pro AGP, and XP2800+. I can bury the processor 100%(constant usage), and still play games etc. w/ no problems.

Pick up an ATI, you'll be happier w/ it in the long-run. I'm running the Maya II 9700Pro from ATI and even though ATI has the 9800Pro out already, the 9700Pro out performs every thing else on the market, including N-Vidia's brand new "Ultra" card. Shop around, I found my card new retail boxed w/ 6 full games for $249. Check out googlegear.com, they sell for less and shipping is usually free. Hope this helps...

Even though a 9200 is not a 9700 I'd still go for the Radeon over the 4800 Ti simply because it's more current. I use a 4800 Ti myself and had issues with it ever since DX 9 came out. Quite strangely the older 4600 Ti I have in another computer works better but speedwise it can't compete compared with newer ones in the same price range. Dunno what's up with Nvidia but they had it rough against ATI lately. Best card on the market in the Radoen 9800 256Mb but it costs a small fortune.

nice 1 jim thanks for the advice m8....
i wouldnt mind a radeon 9800 pro 256 ddr
but £300 just to play games lol............a bit steep though i mean everyone is praysing the nvidia 5900.....i dont know much about the nvidia card but even that is steep in price even more than the 9800 256 i think
take care matey
