I removed my northbridge fan because it was causing a lot of noise. Computer hasn't hiccupped at all when I did this. I could even stress it out with 3Dmark 2001 and 2003 with no problems whatsoever. If only there was a way to properly seat the fan without causing any noise...

Ali, I bought 3 Zalman Northbridge Passive Heatsinks. One for my GA-7VAXP, one for the Wife's GA-7VAXP and one for my brother's GA-7VAXP. Mine was the first to go, my Wife's fan started whining in December. I have no idea when my brother's fan stopped working, but it wasn't spinning at all, so I installed the Zalman on his Mobo for him.

Thanks Michael, I'll consider getting that heatsink. But wouldn't the heatsink that came with the board be sufficient enough? I'm not sure how hot the northbridge gets on my system. Is there a way to find this out? I don't think SiSoft Sandra or Aida32 would tell me this.

I've tried entering the BIOS setup, can't get there. Is there a way to restore the bios by removing the battery, setting a jumper, etc.? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you can't enter the BIOS, you can't enter the BIOS flash utility to reflash it.

GA-7vaxp is supposed to use the backup {(good) BIOS software} to flash a corrupted {(bad)BIOS software},
but appears that your BIOS chip is gone
It will not work with one good BIOS chip, so much for dual BIOS
It has happened to me twice

I don't know, maybe it is from overclocking it to hard

I think this is a good mobo, but maybe not for overclocking

I am have moved to a FIC AU13 because you can overclock its fsb separetly from the agp/pci
it also has the nforce2 chipset for dual channel, even with different amount of ram in each channe, as long as all the dimm are the same and is actually rated for 400fsb, whilt the via kt400 is not.

Peace

I really need some help please here!!! :-(

Thing is I can't get the GA-7VAXP mobo to detect ANY hard drive on IDE Channel 1. It was like this for a while no, but it worked wonderfully before. Then, it stopped working on IDE 1, sometimes it did and sometimes it doesn't, then it stopped working on that channel altogether. I've tried re-flashing the BIOS and but that didn't work either?

Everything else on the board worked very fine, memory, video card, sound etc...

Just can't get IDE Channel to pick up hard drive:-(

Please help?

Johnney if your hard drive is recognized in device manager, but not in "my computer, you need to run a hard drive format utility, such as maxblast.

Peace

My GA-7VAXP has recently caused a short-circuit to occur between the connection with the 400W PSU, and effectively taken the whole PSU with it, I believe. It has pitch-black burn-marks on the PSU connectors on the board, and some sort of acid has eaten away the plastic dividers between the PSU connectors, effectively rendering the whole PSU and motherboard useless.
I did like this board, but don't know if the short-circuit have been caused by the board being too close to the metallic surface of the case. Anyway, I am in the market for a new AMD board, and might consider getting an NForce2 since I heard Abit made a good one, but the GF4 Ti4600 might be having some issues with being too long for it.

I've had this board for a while, really happy with it, but now have a problem. Fitted a new CPU fan the other day, turned power back on and it died after about 4-5 seconds. Now, if I turn off power at mains then turn back on, it will start for half a second then die, fans start turning etc.
Have tried:

1. Checking processor. Works fine. Not blown.
2. Checking PSU, works fine.
3. Cleaning motherboard, full clean and rebuild to check for shorts.
4. Clearing CMOS to get rid of any temperature alerts/fan alerts. No joy. (had to take out battery to do this because no CMOS jumper)

Help!!!!! Please!!!! Am a poor student who can't afford another mobo unless absolutely necessary.

OK have tried that but still doing exactly the same. Any other ideas, or do you think this mobo's had it? Unless something's burned out when I first rebooted after changing the fan, I can't see any reason for it to be screwed.........

>> Re: Anyone got a Gigabyte GA-7VAXP?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. It seems that Giga-byte trumps up this Dual BIOS, but they are cheap BIOS chips soldered on the board. A better way to implement a BIOS is to put a good quality REMOVEABLE chip on the board. My GA-7VAXP used to flash it self, give me warning messages (WOW Dual BIOS is really working), I have switched to a FIC AU13 and guess what? you would forget that the BIOS is even there!!

From now on, I am not tearing a $1000-@2000 comp apart because of a $2 non-replacable chip.

I don't care how nice a comp mobo seems, if it doesn't have a user serviceable BIOS, I don't want it.

ie. Giga-byte7n400pro ll

I buy my parts online cheap like everybody else, but I need quick (1 day ) turn around on my motherboard

Peace
