The only way to know whay your voltages are, is to measure them.

Use a digital multimeter.

Kass.

You can change the agp/pci frequency.

Download the modified bios from http://www.lumberjacker.de

This allows you to change the agp/pci ratio. You need to change the PLL setting in the frequency setting section of the bios.

Please click on link 20 at the bottom of this web page and read the information posted by Adrian Jones on 30 May 2003.

I'm running the F13 modified bios on a GA7-VAXP Rev 1.1 and it works fine. Just download the bios and update in the normal way.

Thermaltake Volcano 11 Xaser is an excellent cpu cooler.

Hope this helps.

Andy, thanks, that would be brilliant. Problem is I have the GA-7VAX version, same as VAXP bar RAID support etc. Shouldn't use a VAXP bios just in case...

Mathew.
You can download a manual from the Gigabyte website. It's in PDF format and it's about 5mb.

Good luck.

I'm running a raid 1 set up and I can't get the system to boot w/ a 3rd drive plugged in on one of the ide channels to use as a back-up for data. Raid works fine w/o 3rd drive plugged in. Not much talk here about raid. Anybody have any ideas?

Hello Sam

I am assuming that you are running RAID1 on IDE2 and that you are trying to run your extra storage drive on IDE3. I believe that you must run that RAID array w/ the BIOS in RAID, and can not use IDE3 because you would need to have IDE2&3 in ATA to use it that way.

If you aren't using two optical drives, try to run your additional storage drive as a "slave" on IDE1.

If all else fails, non-RAID IDE PCI cards can be had for $20.

Have a good day

Well My 7VAXP has just consigned itself to the bin, system was performing odd things such as lock ups, crashes and random restarts. Upon closer inspection (I thought something had popped loose so i would re-seat all the cards and memory) I found that the small capacitor near the regulators has bulged so that would explain a few things.

I'm now moving up to a GA-7NNXP. Although my old board has done me proud for the last year and a half and I'm surprised it still wants to keep going regardless of the blown cap.

See bio for system setup.

Hello Outa Myhead

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you have two different size hard drives in a RAID0 array, your array will be twice the size of the smaller drive. Yes?

Well the way I read the instructions in the promise handbook I had to have either two identical drives or the slave drive to be larger than the primary, I would like to run RAID on the system but at the moment there running as ultra ATA as the slave drive has data on it already that I don't want to lose (I have to learn more about The RAID setup as the software made it sound like it would wipe the entire drive regardless of partitions).

The other little quirk I noticed that might be unique to this board or possibly others is having just the two HDD's on the RAID 0 & 1 channels the system takes almost 2 minutes to boot to the desktop. When I have my old 27GB HDD attached to the normal IDE channels the system will boot to the desktop in about 40 seconds.

Well the system is getting it's new board tomorrow, I might keep the 7VAXP and see if I can replace the blown cap as it's been a reliable board.

See bio for system setup.

Hello Outa Myhead

As you probably already know the Gigabyte GA-7VAXP hardware RAID solution has its on BIOS causing the lengthened startup; can be disabled in BIOS if you only use it as a temporary video drive as I do. Technically in a RAID0 array both drives are master.

Hey, how about offloading your important data from your 127GB drive to your 200GB drive, then partitioning & formating your RAID array and replace the data?

Please can anyone tell me how to overclock an Athlon XP2200+ so I can set the fsb to 166 mhz

It's a model 8, stepping 0.

I've tried to alter the multiplyer to 166 mhz but the computer won't boot. I believe I need to put a link wire
on the processor socket to short out 2 pins.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Can you set your mobo fsb in 1mhz increments? Go for fastest fsb stable. You will probably never get stable w/ that processor unless you run DDR333 memory.

Hey, Andy

What I mean is, a lot of 2000+, w/133fsb just aren't capable of running at 166fsb

The bottleneck is not your mobo, it is rated for 166fsb, it is not your system memory, it too is rated for 166fsb.

133fsb to 166fsb is a big step, about 25%, if you get 153fsb w/ your processor,you will have a 15%OC.

I have (2) 2500+'s, one does 195fsb w/ 333DDR, the other only does 175fsb w/ 333DDR.

Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.

Don't waste long hours on a few mhz fsb at the edge of stability, enjoy good (long term) stable performance at a reasonable OC and you will be much happier in the long run.

I'll try to get the best out of what i've got.

I may upgrade to a XP2500+

Hey Andy

Good news to report

I experimented w/ tightening up my memory timings, (SPD 7-3-3-2.5) and got the comp w/ 175fsb up to 213fsb before windows crashed, had to reduce it to 200fsb so it woulndn't crash to desktop in games.

If you haven't already, experiment with the tightest ram timings your system can handle.

Peace

I've played around with my memory timings and it has made a difference.

Fast Command = Fast.

Cas Latency = 2.5 (Cas 2 won't boot)

Bank Interleave = 4 Bank

Precharge to active (TRP) = 3T

Tras Non-DDr400/DDR400 =7T10T

Active to cmd (TRCD) = 3T

Dram Burst Length = 8

Dram Queue Depth = 4 level

Dram Command Rate = 2T

Write Recovery Time = 2T

Dram tWTR = 1T

I'm running 512mb of 333mhz ddr ram (2x 256 mb Samsung). This is as fast as it will go
and still be bootable and stable

I'm using the F13 modified bios, as you can alter the agp/pci multiplyer.

To the poster who had problems running a second hard drive whilst using ide3. I use an 80 gig Samsung Spinpoint
connected to ide3 as a master and i can run another drive connected as a slave to tha same ide channel.
You have to set the raid controller function to ATA in the integrated peripherals section of the bios.

Thanks very much OGCW.
