i have a ga-7n400 pro2 and at first my system was unstable when i baught it but when i relized my fan wasent working properly the comp was restarting when the system got to 100*C thats damn hot now that i fixed the fan it runs at a nice 55-59*c......my only problem now is that i have a 350 watt power pack so my volts are not where they shuld be but system is still stable

my question is i got my 3000 amd xp to run at 2.17, how can i make that faster i have the overclock on auto but the clk-ratio i dont understand i dont wanna trial and error not sure what would happing i have the buss set at 166 mhz any faster the sytem gets unstable(which i think is casue of the voltz) but the mhz dosent go up whats a good clk_ratio????

my system is a ga-7n400 pro2 amd xp 3000+ only 512 ddr ram nvidea 5500 256 bit card 200 gig hd its a nice system runs d3 and eq2 fine just i baught 3000 to get 3000 not 2.17

What is the default jumper config on a GA-7VAXP? I looked in the manual and there are 5 jumpers for CLK RATIO, yet on the board, there are six in a row, not 5.

Also SW1 in the manual has 2 jumpers, yet on the board there is one.

I ask because a recently inherited mobo with 3000+ AMD Athlon came my way and it locks up in bios, (no OS yet) or turns on for 8-10 seconds with no monitor activity, all fans running then shuts off.

Any info is appreciated.

(2) things pornomike

1) How many watts your psu is doesn't necessarily mean you don't have good voltage, unless you have a ton of extra devices on your system

2) you want to run your system mem @ 1:1

It has been shown in many bench tests that running your fsb @ a higher speed than your system memory does nothing to increase measured performance

Also pornomike

Your temps aren't "dangerous", but they could be a lot lower, for long cpu life

Hi Jeremy, Welcome to HWA

Did you get the Manual with the computer or did you download it, if I am not mistaken it did have a five and a two switch configuration, could find out tomorrow as the lad I sold it to still has the computer, and my son as one that I gave him but without Sata connections, have a look on the board again for the model, you may have missed something off the end.

Thanks Jim,

I got the issue taken care of. The manual I had was from the web, b/c I didn't have access to hardcopy. I have learned a lesson from this, no matter how experienced at PC building you are, you can always overlook something. The jumper settings were clear to the other end of the Mobo. Looked everywhere around the jumpers but not the other end of the board.

Thanks though, Jim.

Now I just have the problem of it freezing up after a while and after restart I just get a blank monitor. Got the OS installed but now it freezes after being up for a few minutes.

I would go into bios and keep an eye on the CPU’s temp, if it goes to high this may cause the freeze, or it’s the PSU or Memory, swap out if you can to test.
Does the vid card have a fan installed check to see if its spinning or blocked, if not it could be overheating, if this freezing is caused by overheating for a test take the side off and place a household cooling fan near to the comp to blow air into the computer.

I did monitor the cpu in the bios. It never broke 31 C while sitting there idle. The vid card is just an old matrox that I know works fine. I have a 300W PSU with the mobo, hd, and cd connected to it. Shouldn't be the PSU. It had worked fine before I put this board in the case. The side panel has been off the whole time, but I didn't put a fan by it. I'll give that a shot.

Try the fan and you could test the memory with Windows Memory Diagnostic.

Hi pornomike

If you have the GA-7N400 Pro2 there is a difference between the boards, I have the GA-7N400 Pro and as you say can run Dual, but the GA-7VAXP as only three dim slots and can’t run dual mode.
You say you have 512 meg, is that two 128 slabs

OCGW, gues it's good i got F9 BIOS and not a more recent one. no stability issues at all. wonder, tho, how much that has to do with onboard raid

I am not OC and the memory I have is not the best but will run in Aggressive in Dual mode, but I find my AMD 2700XP runs ok, was going to upgrade to the 400 fsb but now thinking of spending the money on the 64 3500 wincheter, but still not decided on what board to get as all out there are having problems, I even asked my supplier about a problem with a board that they were selling and they said they had stopped selling them till this was rectified, and I set my heart on this board but will wait now till I here better things.
Does your 3000 run at 333, and what is the memory you have? 333 or 400.

If you are OC the CPU then I don’t know if putting the 400 down to 333 would help, but my mem is PC3200 but im running it at 333 like what the CPU runs at.
