Yes. Built my last 8 or so systems using one.

I build systems for people all the time (including myself). I've always used my handy craftsman magnetic screwdriver with interchangeable heads. That low of a magnetic field isn't going to hurt anything. If you were using a lithium magnetic or an eltromagnet you'd have something to worry about.

You should be okay. I used to know this guy who thought that they could short out stuff but I'm sure that I would've heard something about it if there was a danger. Just don't go around in wool socks on your floor zapping componets with it and you should be fine.

i think the only thing u have to worry about is rubbing them on a harddrive, floppy, and the motherboard battery or while the system is on.

that is the main reason i started using mine! LOL
i dropped countless screws while installing my mobo in my original case, magnetic screwdrivers are godsends....... i agree don't go around rubbing it on your hard drive or floppies

My god, they're DANGEROUS.

Even a small amount of static can fry components.

There is no reason to play with this sort of fire.
Get a decent toolkit, with long tweesers, and those grabby things for dropped screws.
Maybe pick up an anti-static wrist guard too.

Magnets and static are your pc's second and third worst enemies!
(1st is liquids, 4th is power surges/outages, but surge protectors help with that, and so do UPS)

A lot fo the "bad" products people return are actually damaged due to magnetism/static.

You probably WON'T hurt anything using a magnet that weak, but it's NEVER a good idea to use them.

One slip, one solar flare, anything, could ruin your system.
It's like scratching your head with a gun.

Magnetic screwdrivers are pretty safe near computers. just be careful though. Also, remove mobile/cell phones from the monitor and magnets from the monitor. they can cause display distortions.

Like all screwdiver the only danger is shorting out live ciruits and you dont need a magnetci screwdriver for that.

As for induced voltages the physics is against it there is no close coulped coil to genera any significant voltages and the length of tracks probably means that the induced voltage is in the microvolt range may be milli volt not the killer kilovolts of static and that is totally different. Its abit like the BS about mobile phiones causing fires at petrol stations the voltages induced would not warm an atom but watch the static discharges when you stop your vehicle. Here in australia at drier times a 1cm spark from static build up is not uncommon.
