My XP Hom system did a crash...tried reloading CD for repair and found that it would never
complete loading all the files . tried several different CD drives. Still no luck. installed a new
Hard drive and started total new install...installs most files but still will not load all files.
Sounds like a hardware failure..anyone?

Most likely a memory issue. Or your drives aren't configured/jumpered correctly as far as Master/Slave/Cable Select. A drive on a cable by itself should be CS or Master, and on the end connector. Try both CS and Master.
As for memory, download and run Memtest86. It's free and runs from a bootable diskette. So you don't even need the OS loaded.
You can also try switching the memory around in the slots and run one stick at a time.

thanx,I will remove the mem stick by stick . I am working off my labtop and it does not have a working FD
to allow copying a downloaded file. .

jim as Josh said ,it may be mem. issue. Try this, set bios to failsafe or default settings, then set boot sequence to 1--floppy----2--cd------ 3--hdd . Use one stick of memory until you get windows installed then do whatever you need to do . Follow this link and print it out ,then follow it step by step. Good luck.

Thanks...you are a life saver. I got lucky and pulled my second ddr 256
and started a reboot and repair...#199. This one is going through the
motions and is loading all the files. Thanks guys!!
