Hi,

A buddy of mine is sharing his cable connection with his roommate but everytime that he wants to play online his ping gets to high because his roommate is downloading. Is there a way to have an equel share of bandwith?
Both run xp and r connected via a router.

umm sort of, one esy way i can think of is with the 10/100 routers is to route at 10 not 100 which will split the bandwidth between then more even, but you may lose 30-40 mbs

take a look at this::
http://www.clarkconnect.org/docs/2.0/bandwidth.htm
http://www.clarkconnect.org/webapp/downloads.jsp

I think its server based tools, so not a normal option but then i came across this.

http://bandwidthcontroller.com/

or you may want to try this link
http://www.ctron.com/support/manuals/polman1.2rev1/docs/rate_create_ht.html

its a make your own type thing

here is one that is already made (by the looks of it)
http://dammfine.com/projects/javathrottle/

I think that should do!

Set a time for downloading and a time for gaming this will help a lot. And it is easy to do,if the other guy does`nt hold to his part of the bargin.Take a sharp knife and cut him off. hehe Or maybe just cut him !! Really if you set times for downloading it works really well,this way both can download at the same time.

I use a utility called NetLimiter for this (you can download a trial version from http://www.netlimiter.com/ and check it out). Works a treat. You can set limits on all uploading and downloading bandwidth for your cnx. I found it really handy.
