Removing some RAM worked fine.

I was given this machine:

Twin P3 700 with scsi drives & cd burner.

Not used for 2 years (what a waste).

4 x 128MB RAM.

2 sticks pc100, 2 pc133.

Removed pc133, and away it goes.

Thanks for the tip.

Iain Mackay,

you turned off al caching in the BIOS, and loosend your timings, and its not a ram problem???

Two machines in as many days displaying this error. In both cases it was RAM. One had a known bad memory combination, the other would not boot if only one (bad) of two sticks was in the machine. Removing the (bad) stick did the trick.

RAM, RAM, RAM. Remove it, switch it, swap it.

i hade the same problem but i fond the answer

i found in the computer i try to installing the winxp that the bank's memory hase to kind of memory
pass 100 and pass 133

you have to be combatable
the all pass 133
or pass 100
it will not work when the both of them in the memory
you have to deside what kind you will use and put it in the memory's bank
ok ?

i made them all pass 133
and it work good now

email me if it's didn't work with u
thanks a lot

I repeatedly got this error. Turns out that the optiplex gx270 i was working on had a "OS install mode" option in the BIOS. I switched that on and all is well!

Mine error code is 14.

I checked the RAM of the machine, it is PC133Mhz, but in the BIOS default load, it was recognised as 100MHz, so I change it to 133 and the WinXP CD load beutifully, thanks for the tips here !!

The remedy for me was to replace the bad RAM. I used the Memtest86 program to identify the bad ram. Once the RAM was replaced, WinXP setup program installed without a problem. You would think that this problem would be in the book. Oh well...

Hi. I had the same problem with the setupdd.sys file. I pulled the RAM and found out it was running with PC133 RAM rather than PC100, which is the correct one. I changed it and it all worked wonderful!
Good luck and thanks for the comments.

I experienced this error when I tried to overclock the processor on a ABIT motherboard. Just load the fail-safe defaults in the bios and it should boot fine.

Most probable cause for this error is a memory failure. Bad memory can cause files to get corrupted as they donít read and re-write properly or fail entirely. You can download a simple memory tester program that boots your pc and automatically runs the application. I use ďMemtest86Ē and have found it to be very accurate to diagnose these types of problems.

You can find memtest at this url. Itís free but you can donate to this group of pc wizzards. Ive use this program often to fix pcís for others.
