Do u guys put all your icons from games and apps on ur desktop? I personally just keep my recycle bin on it. I personally cant stand having 50 icons on it like some of my friends.

I didn't used to have an opinion on this until I worked on a 'box' owned by a guy who didn't like the Start Menu. He had dragged every single icon he could onto the desktop. To make matters worse, he'd used a 'make-your-own-icon' program, so they were all the same picture of his dog. To be fair, though, he had sorted them into alphabetical order.

Anything I use frequently has an icon on the desktop. Otherwise it resides in the start menu. Occasionally I get lazy and use the desktop as the place I download files to. Right now at 1024x768 resolution 1/3 of my total desktop space is used by icons.

I'm not sure if this is true or not, I'm sure someone here will know:

I heard it's a bad idea to keep to much stuff on your desktop becase it uses up memory. Were as if you keep it all in directorys it dosn't.

Is this true?

My desktop is a complete mess at the moment. About 90 icons, graphics files, downloaded .zips ect. It started out neat with just the 'my computer', AOL, and recycle bin icons and folders titled : System Tools, MP3 And Music, Viewers And Players, Graphics And Video, and Games. All my documents were in 'My Documents'. But I've been busy lattley so everthing just gets dumped.

I like to keep my desktop clean I dont like all the icons so I use the quicklaunch a lot. Most people I know dont use it. I think its a great part of Windows one the best things they implamented no double clicking and clean desktop. I use my quicklaunch the most.

MSI K7N2 DELTA ILSR
AthlonXP 2800+(barton)
eVGA nVIDIA 6800GS 256MB

I keep my most frequently used program's shortcuts on the desktop. (I never store files on my desktop since my C:\ drive is for my OS and my D:\ drive is for programs and files.) If I need to use something else I just go get it out of the start menu.

I have a three folders on my desktop called Apps, Docs and Games. I just dump any desktop icons in those; I’m sure you can guess what goes in where ;)

I have my taskbar two rows high, with about 20 icons in the quicklaunch bar for stuff like Word, Excel and Opera, etc plus a few commonly used documents like my organiser and bank account spreadsheet.

Aside from that, my desktop is clear except for a rather nice picture of Eliza Dushku at the moment :D

Yuck! Eliza Dushku! Ha ha just kidding. ;) Yah my desktop background changes all the time. Bands, AMD stuff, computer jokes, babes, cars, et cetera. Babes never stay up long thanks to how uncomfortble it can make me feel around my parents. At least they can't monitor my laptop's background! :D

Airman - You shouldn't put your porn folder on the desktop you GF might find it when she checks her e-mail. Porn should be hidden in a sub-sub-sub-sub directory and called something like 'car pictures'. She'll never find it there.

By the way, sub, sub, sub, hidden directories in a PW protected zip file ;-)

Oh and by the way, I keep my Desktop clear and only use the Quickbar!
