I know this is a really simple thing to do but I just can't believe I forgot what I was suppose to do to make one lol.

Since I'm upgrading soon, I need to format my computer. But my floppy disks don't work with my floppy drive. I don't know why but I think it's because my system is a NTFS format and the floppies were formatted for my old FAT32 system. I can't seem to format them to NTFS though.

So my question is, how do I create a Windows XP Pro bood disk with a CD-ROM?

I use Bart's way to create the bootable cd's ...

http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/

and ...

http://unattended.msfn.org/

will show you how to make it an unattended installation complete with patches, support for extra msd's (no more pressing F6 at the start of setup then having to find the floppy with your raid/sata drivers), your own drivers and maybe one or two apps. Beats the hell out of anything else.

Try http://www.bootdisk.com You can make bootdisks for most OS's.

Abit IC7
P4 2.8 800fsb w/HT
Volcano 7+
pc 4000 512mb
40 Gb 7200 rpm

If it's worth doing, then it's probably illegal.

Sometimes people can't boot from a CD for one reason or other. That's why MS has floppy discs for booting. The first thing you have to determine is if your XP Pro has SP1 or not. The boot disks won't work otherwise. If it's XP Pro without SP1 use these.

If you have XP Pro SP1 then use these

If your going to install XP then you don't need a boot disk.

I only use a boot disk when I'm not performing a clean install, which I advise against.

Once your hard drive is formatted and partitioned and ready for a OS install all you need do is boot to the cd-rom and perform your install from there.

If you have a current hard drive, the program that is provided is excellent and makes the process so much easier nowadays.

Life is too short, make the best of it!

Why and when you need startup disks.

The Windows XP startup disk allows computers without a bootable CD-ROM to perform a new installation of the operating system. The Windows XP startup disk will automatically load the correct drivers to gain access to the CD-ROM drive and start a new installation of Setup.
