when i first saw this arengment i have to admit it reminded me of my dual voodoo 2 days.
then i considered a ibm monitor i saw that required four full dvi connectors to drive at an insane reslution of 3840 x 2400. without the full four connectors the refresh rates on the monitor are below par. could this system merley be a way of pushing the traditional dpi on a monitor up into the range of 200 dpi.
i know nvidia and their quatro cards seemed to be hooked at the waist to the new ibm monitor.

i may just be blowing smoke but it seems a little to far out to be a coincidence.

ibm monitor site.

The latest rev of the T221--the T221-DG5--has a special mode when hooked up to the Quadro FX 3000 (and I assume 4K and 4.4K). Under this special mode, the dual-link port drives 2624x2400 portion of the screen and the single-link port drives the remaining 1216x2400 portion, all at 48Hz genlocked.

The DG5 comes with a dual-link DVI splitter. And no, you can't use the resulting split DVIs to drive 2 other monitors. The splitter merely splits the even/odd pixels inherent in the 2 links out to 2 different DVI ports on the monitor. The monitor recombines the 2 streams internally.

The T221 requires four channels of DVI(-D), not four connectors. The DVI spec allows for either one or two channels of DVI.

FWIW, the 30" Apple Cinema Display can also use this, with 2560x1600 resolution. Apple sells http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?pr...=M9593G/A, a four-channel dual-DVI version of the GF6800U - it can take up to two of these.

You're confusing dual-link DVI with single-link DVI. The T221 has 4 single-link DVIs and you can drive it with 1, 2, 3, or 4 simultaneously. The Apple 30 has a dual-link DVI interface.
