I suppose it's down to personal preference, but I think Acrylic cases are awful...no elegance or anything about them. As well as that, they emit RF like no one's business. But....if you like that sort of thing, get one.

You better be prepared for major wiring. But beware, satisfaction of your wiring job is near impossible due to the whole case being acrylic. Also, ugly hard drives, cd roms, and floppy drives will show. Even painting doesn't really help. If any, get one of the black tinted acrylic cases.

Your also more likly to get heat problems. Acrylic dosn't conduct heat as well as steel or aluminum.

I also agree they look awfull.

It would take at least 4 hours to tidy JUST the psu, then you have your fans, lights and such to tuck away. not worth it unless you really want to show off your computer that will remain stationary (those cases crack, and get finger prints REALLY bad) and out of reach of young children/stupid people.

I seen 1 and inside you can see the dust settled everywhere, so if ya wanna show it off you better get you cleaning gloves on a few times a month. But if you gonna go with it cleaning the inside with record cleaner will take the staic away from the case so the dust may not settle as much.

Well, I've got one and I love it. Mine hasn't cracked, doesn't show up fingerprints unless you hold it up to the light (wouldn't recommend that-they're no lighter than normal cases), keeps both the CPU and system board as cool as any other case I've had, and hasn't yet given me radiation induced tumours (it may have turned me sterile for all I know but hey-you save money on condoms). Anyone who complains that they're difficult to wire and/or tidy clearly doesn't have an imagination or a Maplins catalogue (no offence, lads). And I think it looks fab, especially at night with all the cool blue fan lights a-glowin'.

It's not all rosy in the garden of course. Looks are always subjective so the completed machine won't be to everyone's taste. The one I have does make upgrading a little more difficult, as the mobo attaches directly to the side panel, so to get to your drives you have to unplug the cables from the mobo-but then that's not difficult for an experienced system builder (or suitably trained chimp), and how often do you need to swap out your hard drives and DVD burner, ferchrissakes? Mine came flat packed and had to be built (a simple 1/2 hour job) and also has holes for 5 fans which tend to be a bit noisy- but I just installed a fan controller (with dials which glow a fan-light-matching blue, natch) to keep the wind to a dull roar and stop the curtains from being sucked into the case (again).

To recap, I wouldn't change it for the world, but it is slightly higher maintainence, and the final look is very much a matter of taste.

Regards,

Chris McNally

Acrylic should be good if you are using it for a display case. It's clear and is good for that job. Polycarbonate is the stronger material and machines better, but if you aren't using for wear and tear it should be fine. Try http://www.iplasticsupply.com/materials/acrylic-plexiglass-acr...sheet-rod/ and http://hightechplastics.com/ They both have acrylic and polycarbonate.
