ok, well ive been having trouble installing my audigy, so I figured i would try to update my BIOS. i have an Asus p4xp-x mobo and there was one update, so i went to DOS, used EZ flash (yeah right) and proceeded to flash. well i pushed Y for yes, and it went a long a little bit then it said FAILED. so i tried again and failed, so then i just pushed N, and it rebooted.

well now, when you power on the computer, you get nothing. no video signal, no BIOS screen, no windows, no nothing.

am I screwed? Is this a good excuse to buy an AMD 64bit system now? hehehe

Does it the mobo beep? Also have you opened the case and put anything new or took anything out or just disconnected anything?

the mobo doesnt beep. I threw in a spare floppy drive (which normally isnt in there) so I could flash the bios

hmmmm I dont know if this will work but open the case and look down at the mobo find the batt and look around and see if you see a jumper.. Try and reset the bios if you dont have the jumper just pull the batt out and disconnect the power... make sure to push the power button a few times to release any charge it might have built up.. Walk away and go get something to drink.... and put your batt back in... try and startup and post what happens... Any noises you hear and if it sounds like its booting up.. also is the hd clicking or just humming?

you have to do more than just take out the battery, you need to short the jbat jumpers from 1-2 pins to 2-3 pins then back to 1-2 or look in your owners manual or online incase your mobo is different

LOL, it sounds like you want the mobo to be fried so you have a decent excuse to get a new system.

Fair enough, I'd be the same if I had the money. ;)

you can buy new BIOS chips, but you will need to buy the chip and pay for delivery probally not that much more expensive to get a new bright and shiny mobo.

Hey look on the bios chip and see do you have any markings (bubbles) on top of it.. this is an indication that you fried it also... turn the computer on and feel the chip... if it gets extreemly hot to where you cant keep your finger on it for very long.... its fried!!

Try pressing F6, If you can get it to boot,

BUt once a bios flash has failed then that it, if you can place in the old bios then you just plained old fuked,
Bios chip are exspesive. (more or less what a replacement costs) So if you can boot then a new mobo may be a good option.

Whats Asus said?

Hey Grant

Put the floppy drive back in, place a floppy boot disk in, if it access’s the drive you may be in with a chance to reflash. This is if the Bios is not damaged.

o btw, steven

u wouldnt see bubbles or marks on the bios chip because when you flash ur bios and it fails it doesnt actually frie the chip it overwrites the bios with some code it cant understand.

So basically ur computer does not know its a computer anymore

u do really need a new mobo, unless ur mobo has some special backup function (this time dont get ASUS, not very good make)

A hot flash is the only home based option and you need to find someone with the same (or similar - see section on forced flashing) mobo - someone who trusts you not to screw their comp after you've screwed your own.
