  Soundblaster Live problems in XP
 Date Written
Geno Saturn Oct 15, 2002, 05:51am EDT Report Abuse
I recently switched from 98 to XP, and when i got the latest sounblaster live drivers for XP and tested it out, i noticed a big drop in the quality of the sound, and lots of static. I also noticed that in Windows 98 (which is still installed on this computer) that it lists soundblaster as "SB Live! Wave Out [1080]", and here in XP it lists it as "SB Live! Audio [FF80]", is it suppose to be different like that? The sound quality difference is very noticable when i play music or a game in 98 and then play the music or game on XP, and i don't have the volume, bass, or treble to high either. I've tried to configure everything i could think of, but it didnt help. What can i do?

Hi Geno,

I couldn't find a way to resolve the issue on my own. So I tried to track the problem at the Creative sound blaster site. I got an article which somewhat resembles to the one you are facing. The site lists various troubleshooting steps to get the issue resolved. Go thru the following link for the details:

You can directly search for a better resolution from the following link and by choosing the exact sound card you use.

Thats not my problem exactly, its not poppy or crackling, its just like lower quality than it use to be, and high notes always fuzz up.

try reinstalling the software in win xp. uninstall the drivers in the device manager, then reinstall them.

If your DVDs sound great on the sound blaster but cds and mp3s not so great, could be a sampling issue. SBlive upsample bugfix plugin for winamp and the sound quality improved noticeably. Apparently the SBlive EMU doesn't read 44kHz very well (i'm not sure about this) but for whatever reason 48kHz input to the SBLive works much better. Also the creative drivers aren't the best... I had sound quality issues on my system with XP and tried the kx drivers, seem to work better.
